Knight Errant Caius Desius, Former Shield Sergeant of the XIV Legion Caius Desius served the Imperium since the earliest stages of the Great Crusade, one of the initiates of the Legions inducted during the Pacification of Luna. Caius served with honor and distinction as a Dusk Raider for many years thereafter, until the reuniting of the Legion with it’s Primarch Mortarion. Many long years of Crusading would see Caius elevated to the rank of Shield Sergeant, earning distinguishment from the captaincy of many of the Death Guard’s companies. It was with the breaking of bonds and oaths during the Betrayal at Isstvan III that Caius came to realize the truth of the rot within his Legion and brothers. Swearing vengeance, Caius joined with the other survivors of the betrayal, making their way to Terra, eventually finding himself on the Throneworld; battling through his traitorous brothers and cousins with a small band of survivors from Isstvan III. It was during their flight back to the Solar system that his former Captain, mortally slain by Caius’ own hand returned from death as the host for a putrescent daemon. It was during this renewed conflict, in single combat against this Greater Daemon of Nurgle that Caius’ latent psychic spark, suppressed for so long, erupted into uncontrolled power, saving the ship and vanquishing the daemon but nearly killing him in the act. Once upon Terra, Caius was recruited by Malcador The Sigillite and his Agents, becoming one of the Knight Errant and sent into the Galaxy at War to fulfill Malcador’s will and ensure a future for Terra and the Imperium. With the other Knights Errant, Caius continued his battle against his wayward brothers and the traitors. Caius kept his shield, the last remnant of his past as a Dusk Raider, and a Death Guard officer, the physical manifestation of his Oath renewed to the Throne. It was during this service to Malcador, across the Galaxy, that Caius serving alongside the Custodian Guard Ozymandias, found both a friendship and a comradery in the aloof King’s Guard. It was in a battle against the Word Bearers, that Ozymandias fell, avenged by Caius. As his last act, the Custodian granted his weapon of office to Caius; genelocking it to the Knight Errant. Caius bared his brother-in-arm’s weapon as he gathered the last remaining Shattered Legionnaires, each with the psychic gift, returning at last to Terra for the final act in the civil war’s play.
