Description

The CZ-Colt RICO (RIot COntrol), sometimes known by the nickname "Colt Ellie" due to its model designation, is a modular less-than-lethal riot gun developed and manufactured by the Czech-American CZ-Colt Industries, currently operating under the Barrett Defence Union.

The original RICO (model designation LE9100) was introduced in 2082 to a fairly lukewarm reception. In a nutshell, it was a hastily re-tooled AR-15 pattern design made to get a figurative foot in the door with the market demand for less-lethal arms that was anticipated to skyrocket due to a major piece of legislature that was being considered in the USLA during this time. Its custom ammunition, which even at the time was considered ineffective for its intended role, used standard smokeless gunpowder as propellant and could only fire basic baton rounds.

In 2085, the "National Law Enforcement Reform, De-Escalation Training Act of 2085" was officially passed as federal legislation in the USLA, which amongst other things, heavily encouraged virtually all American law enforcement agencies to adopt far greater numbers of less-lethal utility with their workforce combined with federally-mandated training and requalification initiatives to promote a competent, well-trained police force, nationwide. This naturally saw the RICO receive a significant boost in sales, to begin with, but it didn't last as by 2092 sales were once again subpar. At this point, CZ-Colt went back to the drawing board and began to experiment with ESSP technology in their ammunition, as well as reworking the gun itself. Their intention was to release an enhanced second version of the RICO.

In 2105, they officially released the LE9200 model, still known as the RICO, this time to far better reception. With its competitive pricing, good ergonomics, and lightweight design, the RICO would slowly begin to carve itself out a niche market success as the go-to less-lethal long arm for most American law enforcement. By 2121, the RICO had also expanded into international law enforcement circles, making it more than a moderate success for CZ-Colt. By 2146, the ammunition selection had expanded into including reliable self-contained MicroTaser units, nicknamed "Bubblegum" due to how they stick to targets. Unfortunately, the RICO would become synonymous with the oppression of sentient anthroids (sentient biomechanical anthropomorphid) following EARTHGOV Special Security Directive A165n, more commonly known as the Anthroid Sentience Regulation Act of 2165 (ASRA). Anthroid sentience is still a topic of heated debate in 2196, with sentient anthroids remaining banned from Earth per the 2165 ASRA directive.

The RICO is a gas-operated less-than-lethal riot gun with a foldable stock. It fires the .456 CLL round (11.6 x 47 mmS), a low-velocity multipurpose less-lethal munition typically taking the form of basic baton rounds, irritant payload rounds, or self-contained taser rounds. It has a 320mm / 12.6-inch rifled barrel, feeds from 18-round detachable box magazines, and has basic iron sights along with a full-length SARS accessory rail. It has a bolt hold-open feature and ambidextrous controls with a release mechanism on both sides of the weapon in addition to an ambidextrous fire selector and magazine release. It can also be fitted with slings, and accessories can be attached to small SARS rail elements on both sides of the handguard.

The exhibit showcased above is a standard LE9200 RICO model which is missing various upgrades introduced post-2160. It has instead been fitted with an Avatar Precision MD456 blast mitigator for the safety of bystanders, a RAYLGARD combined rail cover / cheekrest pieces for longer-muzzled species, and an Aimpoint Systems PRO 21 ELITE 1.5x magnified red dot sight.
