Description

This artwork depicts a weapon which is a part of my sci-fi world's lore. Do not copy the design, use it in your own artworks, or claim it as your own!

Lore and Description:
8K4 "Nefelus" is a multipurpose missile launcher manufactured by Kaneesian. While it externally resembles the older 8K2 "Ingunis" , it is a substantially more capable system. In the case of 8K4, a new generation of guided missiles are used, and a basic optical sight of the 8K2 has been replaced with a computerized fire control unit, allowing for target lock-on. After a missile is fired, the entire launch tube is discarded and replaced with a new one. Most common missiles used with the weapon include the 8K4E1 tandem-charge high-explosive anti-tank guided missile (marked with a yellow stripe on the launch tube tube), the 8K4E2 anti-aircraft guided missile (marked with a light blue stripe), the 8K4E4 thermobaric missile (marked with a red stripe) and an unguided 8K4E6 high-explosive fragmentation rocket (marked with an orange dashed stripe).

The variety of available missile types and the guidance system make the Nefelus a very versatile launcher, capable of engaging various armored vehicles, fortified positions and low-flying aircraft. The launcher is usually operated by a two-man team, where one soldier carries the launcher and the second soldier carries spare launch tube(s), or supported by a light all-terrain vehicle which carries multiple launch tubes of various types.

While the advancements of active protection systems make the 8K4 less useful against some of the most modern military vehicles, at shorter ranges, against older vehicles (which Rotharnian Armed Forces still field a tremendous amount of) or against fortified positions, the launcher remains an incredible tool. Although it was later supplemented by an anti-tank pulse laser developed by Staris to circumvent the threat of APS, the Nefelus remained a common sight on the battlefield in the later stages of the Global War and it gradually replaced most of the older 8K2 launchers in service within the Istarian Army.

Inspiration and Background Information:
This design can be considered an amalgamation of various modern rocket/missile launcher models, including the SMAW, NLAW, Javelin and Stinger. My goal was to create an unified launcher platform which can be used against both ground and air targets, with the ability to quickly change its role by simply fitting a different missile type to it and linking it with the Command and Launch Unit.
