On our Iceland trip this year, NicolasAlexanderOtto and I were hiking during the first 4 days from the south to Landmannalaugar and experienced some of the most spectacular Icelandic landscapes there is.
While hiking we met so many interesting people which we had good conversations with and the connection to the landscapes felt stronger as in the travel mode we usually travel in, in a car, only doing day hikes.
This experience definitely sparked my passion for hiking in remote places once again.
I remember taking this aerial shot on one of our most intense hiking days where we also had a tough but fun river crossing, I guess it took me 10 minutes to cross the river and then had numb feet for the same duration.
Until then we didn't have many great photo opportunities and we were already hungry for the first "keeper shots" after putting in a lot of sweat.
It was still one hour to sunset when suddenly there was a striking beam of light from the dramatic looking sky, touching the surrounding hills.
I immediately pulled out my drone to frame the impressive scenery with the dominant volcano in the left and the river flowing into the frame from the bottom.
After the 4 day long hike our friend Marc picked us up with a rental car and we switched to the more familiar rubber-tramp / road trip mode.
