I'm imagining that 8 years ago you started to reply, but were suddenly mauled by three tigers. You bested the tigers after many hours of intense fighting but the long battle left you far from home. You were lost in the wilderness and had to subsist off of the fruits and nuts you could forage. One day, you mistook one plant for another and spent subsequent days ill. You passed out from dehydration but a passing shaman noticed your near-lifeless body in the foliage. He drug you back to his village where he and some foreign aid workers nursed you back to health. After such traumas you could no longer recall who you were. You spent three years in that village and dug a deep well for your new family there. While digging though you found a gold medallion. The medallion seemed ordinary enough but you fancied the heft of it in your hand so you decided to wear it around your neck. One afternoon while you worked the fall crop the lowering sun caught the medallion dangling from your neck at just the right angle, casting a brilliant map onto the black earth underfoot.
You traced the map eagerly onto cowhide and set off at once with dreams of bringing a wonderful wealth back to your village. The map took you through the jungle, through the desert, and into the Parisian industrial zone. Ages and progress, it seemed, had long since stamped out the landmarks you might recon by. The search for the treasure was hopeless. There was hope, however. As you listened to the language of the people it came back to you... the french classes in highschool, the summer with Annette... you... you were ~daavatar ! Glorious day! You had reclaimed your identity!
But such a long way from home, penniless and only recalling how to ask where the bathroom was you knew not how to return to your home. Pacing the streets you stroked the medallion worriedly in your pocket. Of course! How could you have been so foolish? The medallion is made of gold! You ran to the nearest goldsmith's and showed to him the fineness of its craftmanship, showed him how to catch the sun's light on its face and light an ancient map upon the ground. You showed him the wonder of times long forgotten. He had to have it in his collection! He would indeed buy it from you, just name your price! Unfortunately you were not a shrewd businessman asked not but 1/10000th of what he would have paid. He gladly and quickly shook your hand, shoved cash into your pocket and sent you out of his shop. You counted the cash. To your dismay, the best you could afford was a ticket on a freight ship back to your home.
You bought your ticket and climbed aboard the vessel that would be your home for the next 13 weeks. You got to know the crew as they sailed. Sharing jokes and tales, remembering women. You found catharsis in the roll of the ocean, knowing you'd be home soon. The ship docked and you said your goodbyes. Ivan perhaps shed a tear but played it off as a seagull having crapped on his hat. Ah, Ivan... you still remember him fondly. Some hitchhiking and your strong legs carried you the rest of the way home. The hole in the wall where the tigers crashed through was untouched. Dust had settled over all, but there on the screen of your still-running computer was my comment. You typed "ks!" to finish your thought from so long ago, then sought your bed to sleep and let the world melt away for a while.

Cool. I like the foreground object, but I do not like the background. It sort of takes the focus away from the center piece - which is very good. Good job, though.
