Description
This attitude about morals needed to make something good for kids seems to be prevalent among soccer moms, holy-rollers, 90s kids, and fans of MrEnter. But morals aren't always needed. If done the wrong way, morals can become overly preachy or even obnoxious. I don't care what these moo cows think - TVs aren't there to babysit your kids. Overly moralistic garbage will eventually tire the kids out and bore them - they'll want to watch stuff that doesn't teach morals. If you're so paranoid about kids watching stuff with no morals, maybe you shouldn't let them watch TV at all. Same goes for movies and books. In the end it's the parents who have to teach children morals, not the TV.

Nor I...
I first discovered Mario with Mario Teaches Typing, but a lot of the time I just pressed random keys (and in the swimming stages I made Mario drown who knows how many times )...

Is this also due to their nostalgiatardism, or something completely unrelated

Yes, it's due to nostalgiatardism.

It depends. Yes, not everything needs a moral, but it's not good to teach kids it's okay to do bad things either. Speaking of which, some shows\episodes have a moral which are poorly executed which isn't good either.

That's why we have an age restriction system in movies.

That's true, but there's hardly seems to be restriction in TV shows.

Well, there is the 9:00pm watershed. And DVD sets of TV shows often have an age rating on them.

To me, the need for a moral depends on the show, the show's overall mood, and the show's audience. From a show like Arthur or Fairly Oddparents, I might expect a moral (and even then, those shows have morals for different reasons); not so much from Animaniacs, Rocko's Modern Life, or Spongebob.
To play devil's advocate a little bit, though, kids do learn morals from different things. Not just their parents (and even then, not everyone is such a stand-up parent); teachers, friends/peers, other adult family members and mentors, social interaction, and yes, the media. So no, cartoons, etc. don't need morals (I was a 90's kid, and definitely grew up on more shows that had no morals than shows that did, and...all things considered, I think I turned out okay), but kids are like sponges; they'll absorb a little bit from everything.

OMFG! Thank yooooooooooooou for making this stamp.
I don't mind a moral lesson, but sometimes the execution is god awful and they never shut up about it.
Besides, it's not a fictional cartoon character job to be a babysitter or a role model blank slate. Heh heh, I'm glad my original stories are NOT aimed at kids and I have complete freedom of what to get away with.
Take that 90tards!

So...wanting morals is a 90's kid thing?
....are you forgetting that this was the era of Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, and other shows that are far from paragons of morality (I love the two I mentioned, for the record)?

I'm not saying all 1990's show are like that, but a lot of them were.
Besides, I am beyond sick to death of hearing about the 1990s. I wish people would just STFU about the 1990s.

Yeah, the 90's did have a lot of great cartoons, but easily had just as many bad ones as any decade (Rocket Power, Catdog, Cow and Chicken, anyone?). And this has been one of the best decades for animation by far (I love Rick and Morty, Friendship is Magic, We Bare Bears, and Gumball).

I couldn't agree more with what you said. I fully agree that while it is good to have morals, they're not exactly necessary. If anything, it's the parents' job at teaching kids moral lessons. TV's shouldn't have to be the kids' babysitters.

This is why I heavily commend my parents for lecturing me to the point where I flat-out say “I commend you” when they continue to do to this very day as a way of sounding obedient!

Along with the works of Tex Avery and even the Animaniacs. They even make fun of the very idea of morals. Do you remember the wheel of morality?
