I made this stamp nearly a year ago on my computer, but I didn't post it until today.I remember one of my very first stamps said that boys' names sound really stupid on girls. I still feel this way to an extent, but my opinion has softened over time due to me trying to teach myself not to judge people based on their first names. But one thing I do hate is people who give them because they think it will make them more successful. These people seem to think that feminine names hold girls back from success. Honestly, if you believe that, then I've got some bad news for you: you're a sexist. Having a masculine name doesn't ensure that a girl will get ahead in life. It also shows people devaluing femininity and equating it with weakness. And hey, Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, and Hayden Panettiere all have traditionally male names and they're all very feminine. And what about all the famous women and female historical figures that have or had feminine names? Do these people think women like Cleopatra, Livia Drusilla, Boudicca, Zenobia, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Joan of Arc, Elizabeth I, Catherine the Great, Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and Gloria Steinem were held back in life because of their feminine names?
Besides, your name doesn't always determine your future. Naming your kid William or Alexandra won't guarantee success, nor will naming them Tyler or Chantelle guarantee failure. Naming them Ronaldo won't make them good at soccer, nor will naming them Rihanna make them good at singing. Not every Karen is racist, not every Chad is a douchebag, not every Shaniqua is ghetto, and not every Bruce is gay. A Darwin could become a priest and an Ezra could become an atheism activist. An Isabella could become a rugby player and a Scout could become a model.
If you really want to use a traditionally masculine name on a girl, go ahead, but don't go around claiming that it's going to ensure that she's successful or that you're trying to make a feminist statement.
