Description  May series Shiks are not designed for high tension activities. Cooking, cleaning, teaching, all fine... but May 03241.C's current situation could only be described as the complete opposite of ideal.

Blackwater station, a former Kasparov storage depot floating inside the radiation belt of a super-giant on the edge of 'civilized' space. Abandoned by Kasparov, but no longer empty.

"How are we supposed to find what we need in this place? It's massive, and filled with pirates and slavers."

"May, there are many times we've relied on them before. There are benefits to not having to get the company's hands dirty."

"I don't like it here," May pouted "It smells funny. I want to go back to our ship, Ansio."

"Enough complaining, May. Keep your focus, and make sure our goods don't escape. Our contacts should be around this corner here."

 ---

 FZZZKKT!

Sparks flew from the exposed floor panel, as a service robot extracted a burnt out crystalline slab.

:.'Ah told ya .They us̼͉̟͈ͅṉ͇̭ ̖͈crys matrix, an' nah even tha good stuff:

:.Ya ya. ?So what .We did̖n̖͍ͅae comen here for te͖̬͎̥̺͈̥k͔̟̯͓:

:.Tsch, nae bit͍̺e̗̼̺̩̰ me head off Bia, ays bored is al̦̙l͇̭͖̤̝̬̩:

:.Quell, you two... the cli̺̥̤e͔̭̯͔̖͈̜nt iz finally he̹̺r͖̯̜̼̺e͉̰:

The service robot continued to work, oblivious to the discussion of the women surrounding it. A seal hissed and an opening split the wall, permitting the noise of the station to leak into the small room...

May stepped through the opening, and gave a quick gasp.

"Uhhh... I thought you said we were going to be meeting with humans." As she tried to back out through the entrance, she way was blocked by Ansio leading in two captives bound in cufflocks.

 :!Pleazz̦̟̞̤̣e̘͔d to meeting you too sma̝l͉̰̟̥̥ͅl͉͙̳̼͖ ̮one:

 "...eep."

".Ah szhall repreze͂̆n̏́͆ͨt͒͊́́́̽ the Laughing Swarm for thiz deal .Should you wish to addres̀̎͐sͧͣͯ̇ me, ah am Jiik Syaale: The carapace face-plate of the floating Jiik shifted into a grin. : ?Now, to the bus̲͍͈̜͚i̞̠̼͇̘͈n̖͔ess at haa̱͙̪͕͈̬n̬͉̞͓̹͉̪:

 ---

"So that's about the basics of the situation. We are authorized to provide payment for your services in this matter at this time." Ansio gestured to the two bound figures huddled in the corner of the room. One male, and one female, garbed in slightly damaged uniforms.

"May, transfer the access codes to them." As May fumbled with the locking mechanisms, Ansio switched her tablet display on, and a hologram snapped into existence. A flying wing pattern vessel rotated slowly in mid-air, insignias and code dotting its surface.

"And finally, this is the key element in this deal. Our remnant forces at Kasparov 16L report this vessel departed, carrying the initial assault force. Due to differences in this forces' and our technology, they were able to leave the K16L system."

"Sensor tracking of this vessel failed at this point. Our company, Kasparov, needs to find where they went, who they are, and what they want in this region of space."

: ?Iz that̫̥̠̟ͅ ̹a̤ll: Jiik stretched, and appeared to yawn. Not unlike a floating panther.

"Well, I suppose...yes?" Ansio was confused, this was supposed to be a difficult mission. Her training in hostage transfer and black-market deals never prepared her for something like this. "So we have a deal?"

:.Maybe, small one: Jiik shifted, slowly twisting in place. :..One last ̲̘̞̞̲t͓̩͉̗hing:

: ?You are part of t̹̦͓h̝̦͚e deal, yes:

Nebulosa Ots and Shik artifical human clone concept belong to the true king of South America,

Hachette corvette, and the dirty NATO scum belong to ninjahobo

The Laughing Swarm, Bia Ortanvida, Jiik Syaale, and Taanis Eltarn are creations of somebody unimportant, maybe that person? ->

Thanks! Probably my favorite iteration of the uniforms so far. Well, at least they were until I drew the next image, and improved them even more. The Exchange Part 2 , the only thing those suits were missing were massive holes torn into them by tentacles. :]

The Laughing Swarm, not really a laughing matter!

It's all a matter of perspective, really. Because they certainly are laughing.

Those who have the (mis)fortune to run into them, most likely not much laughing. ::}

The shading and detail on the Bonesuits (along with everything else in the scene) is really good, and probably your best that I've seen yet ...so Internet highfives for you sir.

Aww yiss. I am collecting those. They'll fit nicely along my highsixes and sevens on the display rack!

I gotta level up my illustration/story telling/conception with each image. It looks like I succeeded so far. :::}

Oh, don't worry about them. They're in good hands. Tentacles. Well, both, really...

I'm sure the company would just end up marking their disappearance against the quarterly profit margin, and move on.

This is amazing! Great work on the characters and the background (there are so many awesome details going on)! Love the reflections and lighting  effects, and all the character's different expressions.

Daemoria In reply to Alexx-C [2015-11-24 15:18:43 +0000 UTC]

Multiple mentions of the expressions so far, I think I really got them down this time. For swarmies, it's easy to draw their default "Rape 'o clock" expressions... but I sort of wanted to mix it up for this piece in particular. Mid conversation poses are a cheap way to avoid having dynamic poses, I admit...

But the conclusion to this image is going to require some actual dynamic poses, no way around that, I'm afraid. :v

The details are what keep me sane. Can you find all the hidden jokes?

Those conversation poses can be tough to get right, or keep interesting, but you nailed it.
I spotted smoking bird in the background

This is super awesome--there's so much to like here: the suits, the very casual but dynamic poses, the lighting effects...definitely one of your best pictures, imho. ;0

Thanks for the post~

It's only a matter of time, really before you get there. If you keep practicing, it really is inevitable. Art is a rewarding craft and hobby to have, so don't despair when you're not amazing at it the first several hundred times you attempt it.

Awesome work!

Daemoria In reply to Shabazik [2015-11-24 14:05:33 +0000 UTC]

I got a bit of help on the story from Khal. The main issue I was having, was that I didn't know how the conflict actually started, and who was doing what.

As you can probably see, I sort of cheated with the story by writing essentially "30 MINUTES LATER....", but I think it still gets the point across.

Glad you like it Shabazik, next, and final art-fart coming (very) soon.
