You guys ever find that you really dislike a character until you sit down and draw them? I encountered that recently when I drew goblin-Spyro and again today when I made these sketches of Kiara. She's always annoyed me but I feel like I appreciate her more now that I've sat down and tried to get a handle on her design.Fun fact: I've never drawn any of the characters from the second TLK movie (to the best of my recollection.) Kiara? Nah. Kovu? Nah. Vitani? Nah. At least now I've gone and tried my hand at Kiara. All of these were partially referenced in some way. If you want to know how that works you can ask but otherwise I don't think it's interesting. :u And yeah the colors are all 100% ripped from a variety of screenshots.

Yeah she's really grown on me as a character. I still think the second movie is cheesy beyond belief but I don't mind her like I used to. :b

I know a lot of people don't like her, but ugh she had so much growth in that movie, her development was wonderful. ;u; You did so well with her! I'd have never guessed you've never drawn her before!

I think the whole movie is just ok; the plot has been done a hundred times already. Also I can see no way in which Kiara is not massively inbred.

Yeah, it's a third-rate Disney channel animation they made to make money off TLK fans. Like the Aladdin sequels, though they were argueably more decent. And I would think Nala and Simba have different dads if they were to be betrothed. Maybe Sarafina's pride fell apart after she got pregnant and was taken into Mufasa's pride. It can happen.

Yeah I like to read into stuff too much. And I think I'd rate TLK2 above the Aladdin sequels; those things were literal garbage. The tv series wasn't half bad though.

I don't remember a lot of the Aladdin series, actually. I do remember the Little Mermaid and Timon and Pumbaa though.

It wasn't bad, and last I checked you can find at least some of the episodes on youtube. I preferred the Hercules series (which was actually /excellent/ at times, and a few of the episodes are better animated than some Disney movies,) but they were actually pretty similar. They actually did a Hercules/Aladdin series crossover once, and it blew my tiny ten-year-old mind haha. :b

Great job with all of the expressions and angles 
I can't believe all these colours were taken from screen shots!Β They really flip-flop around with their colours in that movie don't they..

Far be it from me to defend much in that movie, but there is a fairly good reason for all the different colors. They were taken from screenshots at different times of day, making colors in the evening very different from colors in the middle of the night. For some reason I noticed the huge colour changes in the sequel more then I did in the first movie. Maybe I've watched the first that many times I don't even notice it any more.
Perhaps there was just a wider range of colour changes in the second movie?Β Β

I have a secret love of drawing Zira, I just haven't in so long. Β She's so fun to draw. Β You should try her when you want a challenge. Β Very angular and intense. Β I love these drawings. Β Kiara's hard to tackle, you did a great job.

I've never tried my hand at her but I bet she would be fun. :> And thanks! It was tricky--I wanted to make her look like she belonged in the first film, which had a slightly different art style. Don't know how well I succeeded at that though. :u
