Description Heyooo I'm happy with how this turned out. :>

A crystalized Beast Maker stuck waiting to be freed. I kind of like the idea of the different dragons being frozen so that they are still recognizable instead of all being the same. (Although I don't think that was a problem in the game; that'd be a lot to ask haha.)

I'm trying to do backgrounds more and just improve in general, so please go ahead and offer suggestions as you see fit.Β

Ahh that's all for now. Might add more later I guess.

Β Β  Maybe they will make the statues fit the shape of them in Spyro fully remade from the ground up and that is if it gets announced at E3 2018.Β  Which is a better chance since 2018 is Spyro's 2 decade anniversary.

Absolutely wonderful! the lighting and the dragon are really what look best to me. I also wished that all the dragons looked different when they were froze, but I'm fairly certain the PS1 engine couldn't have handled that.

Wow! I really like the idea of being able to distinguish between the different dragons in crystal form, although you're right, that probably would have been to much to ask for in a PS1 game. I also really like the moss growing on him. Seems he has been stuck there for a while. Spyro better hurry up!Β XD Also, his expression adds a layer of depth that wasn't present in the original game. I can imagine being turned to crystal isn't exactly a pleasant experience...

I have always been a big fan of your Spyro pieces, but this one.... holy shit, right in the feels. ;^; There's so much I wanna say about it, but not sure how to word it, like, I remember when I first played this game as a kid I was so frightened of the egg thieves (I called them "the robbers") that it took me FOREVER to get past just the Peace Keepers world, cuz I kept running into them. So when I got to Magic Crafters, I was like "YES! GO ME!" and the game went pretty smoothly from there. (Dream Weavers was my favorite, thought, everything was so pretty) But.... that level in the Treetops was impossible . I still haven't been about to finish it, granted I haven't played it in a few years, but...
Anyway, I love this, I love everything about this, it just brings me back in a newly imagined light, and it is wonderful ;^;

I'm so glad you like it. <3 It was so much fun to come back to something that really sparked my imagination when I was growing up and struggling through that never ending Treetops level. @_@ I actually played the second and third game before I ever played the first, but there's a certain charm to Spyro 1 that sets it apart from it's different but equally charming sequels.Β

Anyways I don't even know where I'm going with this. I'm glad you like it. C:

LocoDA107 [2014-05-26 20:02:07 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, I actually really like the expression coming from the dragon. The expression ends up being a little bit more dire than the expression showed from the dragons in the actual game. Heck, I can tell that for the crystallization process for this dragon wasn't instant, unlike some of the actual dragons from the game. This dragon seemed to suffer from a longer process, and he freaked out as more and more crystal formed on his body.

And I have to agree with Shaiger. The by the looks of the pose, especially for the head part, with the intensely tightened eyes, the process seemed to be painful. I'm sure that once the dragon's feet were completely crystallized, the dragon didn't feel any pain there; he probably just didn't feel it then, that it became dull.

And it looks like this dragon was stuck in the crystal for over a month, in which a whole lot of weather happened in the meantime. The moss is crazy, man!

I'm just wondering why the same thing didn't happen with TLoS Spyro's crystal for DotD. I mean, the guy was trapped in there for three years!

I'm glad you like this piece so much; I'm very pleased with it myself. :> This definitely takes the game in a darker direction than was shown in canon, but personally I think it makes things a bit more dangerous and interesting.Β

I imagine it would have taken a very long time to release all the dragons from crystal, even with the threat of a couple being missed along the way. (Although I imagine the spell would have been broken for everyone, in the end.)

Shaiger [2014-05-26 17:15:50 +0000 UTC]

Gorgeous work as always, but this one really has some emotion in it. I mean, this really speaks to me and gives a realistic touch to the original Spyro games.
Makes me think.
What if there were more dragons than 80 to be saved? It would be a terrible tragedy for them to go down in oblivion...

The pose is very well done and I love the agonizing expression the Beast Maker has on it's face. Kind of looks like turning into crystal is painful - again something a bit realistic to the cute and colourful world of Spyro the Dragon! Background is pleasingly simple (and points for making some of the stars and possible planets some other color than just white) and it really puts emphasis on the dragon. It really sticks out, which is a good thing.

Amazing work. I love the details, especially the moss growing on the dragon, and this is one of the rare Spyro art works that have really touched me. Β Keep up the good work, friend!

Ahh this is such a good comment. Cx

The fact that some of the dragons may have been missed is one of the eeriest I think. Like did the spell break in the end and free them? Or do they have to be found to be freed? I think that makes things way more interesting but also pretty dark.Β

And I love that you commented on the different colored planets too haha. I just took astronomy and tried to apply some of what I learned. C:

Thanks for the great feedback! :>

Shaiger In reply to DaffoDille [2014-06-23 18:42:39 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the awfully late reply >__>

I totally agree with you. To me it seems a bit weird that there could only be 80 dragons (well, okay, less if we don't count the one's in Gnorc Gnexus). Especially after the second and the third game! There are Artisans who are different colour than anyone form Spyro the Dragon and so forth! So I guess this kind of forms into a headcanon; there are dragons who have been missed and forgotten. It's sad, but I think it's also highly possible, if we give Spyro franchise a bit realistic touch.

No problem, friend! C: I'm always lazy at doing starry skies (white dots on black background, how lame) and it really pleases my eyes when I see someone doing planets and stars in different colours. And I think it really shows here that you know what you are doing. Excellent work!

And the pleasure is all mine :> Your drawings are eye candy, and this particular masterpiece really caught my eye. One of my all time favourite Spyro drawings I've ever seen.
