For those of you who don't know what Free World Falls is, here's the abridged version: Bad actors throughout various Administrations sell their souls to gain unbridled administrative power, causing the entire current government to literally go rogue, throwing the world into chaos over what is essentially, a man-made power vacuum masterminded by malevolent, flesh-eating, non-corporal monsters whose goal is to fulfill their primal sadistic desires to either enslave or shamelessly inflict suffering upon the world, and Humans with already a lot of pre-existing administrative power were the key to do that.

Due to the amount of administrative staff that have agreed to these dealings without knowledge, consent, nor input from any other party whatsoever (which included entire alphabet soup agencies, lawyers, prosecutors, bureaucrats, and the majority of federal agents and agencies across the nation), this causes the govt to, for lack of better words, "go rogue".

“They shall rule for an hour, and [He] shall rule the world.”

It's less of "Seven hour War, but with Demons" and instead more of "Endless Wars and civil wars, because the govt got hijacked by demons, and if the suffering ends, the demons starve to death" (to which, whether it be the malevolent chaos of the conflicts, or the malevolent machine-like suffering - both alike must continue by any and all means necessary, for maximum "food production" for... well... consumption, for lack of better word).

also some Resident Evil (super-soldier ghouls), Ju-On: The Grudge (but it spreads even further), Silent Hill (but it's an entire coastline), FAITH (probably the most accurate way to abridge this), and lastly, HELLSIGN . <---- This and FAITH are probably the most accurate way to describe this to people with no imagination, as their ideas for demons are the exact vision I'm aiming for.

There's no doom guy to save the day, No SCP organization (if there was one, it would've been abolished decades before this point) nor any super-humans (unless you count demon-possessed individuals, who are ghoul-like and cannibalistic).

No one is extraordinary. Anyone and everyone is mortal and can die, or get Game-of-Throne'd into getting executed.

The only thing that anybody knows works, guaranteed is exorcisms and shooting at the target until it dies.

Only humans (Think Guts from Berserk, which is accurate because a lot of the types of people that made the deal were people like the Count, or Snake-Lord from the Black Swordsman Arc) and their modern-day tools, including but not limited to: Guns, Tanks, Planes, and Drones.

That’s it. That's the plot!
If you get massive schitzo vibes, then that's perfect since I wrote this whole setting during the controversial 2020 quarantines, and I just took a lot of the crap going on and added some various horror elements.

Back to setting

Obviously, making a deal with demonic powers, then killing (and eating) anyone and everyone that doesn't agree with you, then unleashing psi-ops, gaslight tactics, and media manipulation to disempower otherwise credible witnesses and then announcing mandatory anti-constitutional overhauls tends to have minor drawbacks, such as - I dunno, LITERALLY DESTABILIZING AN ENTIRE CONTINENT!

The Hay & Straw Initiative is... well... It's a training initiative, undertaken by the "rogue-but-not-really-because-it's-messy-and-nobody-knows-wtf-is-going-on-anymore" AWOL faction of Western military forces. (Oh god, the politics of this universe are an absolutely chaotic mess if you haven't guessed already. Don't you worry - I'll get to that some day, and it will be a SPECTACLE!)

The Hay & Straw Initiative is named after the training regime implemented during the First American Civil War (in-universe. Don't think about it) where in order to train recruits, instead of marching under orders of "Left" and "Right", they'd have Hay and straw tied to the recruits' legs and march in accordance to that, due to the illiteracy of the recruits at the time, and the fact that both commands were painfully aware of who they were dealing with.

In universe, present day, everyone maybe literate, but that doesn't mean they're smart or even combat-capable, despite almost everyone being military age.

Training is literally just taking the gun you already own and training to be combat efficient with it: You own a shotgun? You're a shotgunner - and so-on.

As time progressed, the Hay & Straw initiative overtook the name of the faction, renaming it from "The Existing, Legal US govt" (due to not being recognized as legal by the demonically hijacked govt, but if I sat down to explain to you why, I'd both spoil more of the setting's absolute insane shenanigans, and take up the rest of your evening).

The Hay & Straws are, while unorthodox (being either high-quality troops, or literal bums off the street), are the closest you're getting to a "good guy" faction in universe, within North/South America.

I do plan to add more factions, but this is all for now.
