Hello! So you might know that my wacom intuos5 broke around December (uhhh I think?)
Specifically the usb port in my intuos became loose so that when I plugged everything in, there was no signal going into or out of the tablet. I did some searching online, and it seems that this is a really common problem, the second most talked about problem for the intuos5, after scratched surfaces due to high nib wear. It seemed wacom was not very good at handling this problem (and charges lotsa $$$$), so I tried to fixed the problem on my own and I decided it should be shared with you guys.
Note that this is for wacom tablets with wireless capabilities (i.e. bamboo or intuos5 (now intuos pro), you'll need to purchase the wireless kit from wacom)
For those of you who don't want to buy a wireless kit and have an intuos4 (might work for 5 I have no idea), this post by Aydin describes how to fix your tablet by PHYSICALLY SECURING THE USB PORT BY SOLDERING. This requires you to actually open the tablet, but if that's what you want to do, here it is!
theaydin.tumblr.com/post/31005…
Now on to my solution!!
STEP 1) buy a wireless kit.
I bought mine online at amazon, I think for about 40$.
The important thing to note here is that the wireless kit runs on a battery that you load into your tablet, and you need to PLUG YOUR TABLET INTO THE COMPUTER TO CHARGE THE BATTERY. obviously, for those us who's usb port is broken this is useless on your own. that's why we need to get......
STEP 2) Buy a universal camera/cellphone battery charger
Now you might be thinking, what? but yea, trust me. These battery chargers have voltage contacts that are slideable so it can be adjusted to fit various device batteries. This is what it looks like:
This is the exact charger I got. 5$ on ebay + free shipping, came from china but absolutely no issues with the quality. The bottom ledge is spring loaded also, so it can accommodate all sizes of batteries. Note that it DOESN'T have to be this exact one, just any universal battery charger will work!!! just make sure it has sliding capabilities so that it'll fit your tablet battery!
See the two metal things sticking out? The one on the left is where your positive node goes and the right one is where your negative node goes. The battery for the wireless kit has labeled the nodes for +, -, and ground, so you just need to match it up.
Note that the battery in the kit has 3 nodes. This is because the center node is actually a GROUND node, just like the thick post you have with some big north american plugs.
It's not actually necessary; it's used for safety precautions in case there's unwanted current going to your device, you need to send that current else where so you don't fry the electronics. For battery charging purposes, you can pretty much ignore that.
AAAAAAAND that's it!
So basically, you get your wireless kit, use the battery, and when it runs out (the software will give you a warning when your tablet is low on battery), you remove the battery, Stick it in the charger for a couple hours, and go back to your drawing!! in my experience, the battery lasts for like 10 hours before it needs to recharged, and it'll charge fully in like 3~4 hours.
Also, I wasn't very happy when I realized I'd have to get the wireless kit (it's 40$ and I'm a student...), but now I'm glad I did because it's a lot less strain on my tablet esp since I take it with me a lot and I don't have to deal with the cord. and honestly, My intuos 5 was a couple hundred bucks so it deserved the 40$ extra.
It's quite simple, but I actually had a hard time finding this solution online, so I hope it helps someone! Comment if you have any questions!!!

WOW! I feel stupid now. I should have looked it up. I wasted $300-$500 on a Intuos pro after the jack broke on my Intuos 5. Freaking out, I didn't know there was a solution. After 6 months after getting the Intuos Pro, the jack broke somehow and realizing that it's not me but the tablet. I now have 2 tablets, both used, one 2 years old and one 6 months. Both have the same broken jack and for the second tablet, came the wireless kit. All I need now is a charger and I should be ok. But I wish I saw this sooner in June when my first tablet broke and when I was in a panic.

I dont think a bamboo create has a wireless set up for it... as far as I know this is specifically for the intuos! ( now intuos pros I guess)

just found this while looking up stuff for broken usb jacks! I got my pro only 6 months ago and the usb jack is already a goner, I'm definitely going to get this, but do you know how long it would take for wacom to fix the tablet and how much? I would like to see if it's actually worth it as I draw a lot and would rather not only rely on charging a battery like its a phone! but it's of course better if it would take too long or cost too much to repair!!

Dagneo In reply to cutencreatures [2016-01-27 23:15:01 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm sorry I dont know the actual cost of the fix, but ive heard that its 100~200$ (again this is like through the grapevine so I dont know the real costs). To me it seemed waaaay too high for what seemed like a common problem, which is why I went with this fix instead. I totally agree though, its really dependent on how you use the tablet, so if you think its worth it, then I say you get it fixed by wacom!

Thank you! Do you know if this also works with intuos pro? Because i have the wireless kit, and whe the usb port died ( like 4 month after coming from repairment for the exact same problem...) I started using the wireless kit, but i'm almost out of battery, and i really would like to continue drawing with it.
But really thank you this is so helpful!

Hi! Sorry for the late repy, the intuos pro is the same thing as the intuos 5. Wacom's just rebraneded their art tablet series, so what used to be the bamboo is now "intuos" and the original inutos series is now "intuos pro"
so yes, it should work! you just need a battery charger~

doesn't seem to work for me. You said that it charges fully in like 3 to 4 hours? I've charged my Intros pro battery it until the light turns blue on charger...but it only gives me enough juice to make the on intous pro power up and blink 5x and then go off. I initially thought it was a problem with the hardware maybe, but after an hour of pressing the power button and allowing it to blink, while trying to figure out the problem...the battery died again. Re-plugged it on the charger...hooked back up to Intous pro...and now back blinking again, but not enough power to actually use the tablet. It only blinks and then turns off immediately. Is it correct to that the right pin is for the - connection and the left pin is for the + connection? Am i doing something wrong?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Dagneo In reply to dricks123 [2015-10-09 02:59:20 +0000 UTC]
hmmm that's odd, usually the blink 5x thing only happens to me if the Intuos can't find the signal reciever, i.e. the wireless USB thing (I take my intuos around a lot and plug the wifi reciever in and out all the time so I use it as a reminder for me to actually plug in the reciever into the PC). It's a way of the intuos saying "hey bro I work but I'm not connected a computer". It's possibly a driver issue but if you had it working with the cord it shouldn't happen with the wifi reciever... I would actually contact wacom because to me it sounds like something is wrong with the signal transmitter or reciever such that the intuos can't detect the computer.
In terms of the pins, you need to line it up so that the light is purple/pink or whatever when charging (otherwise it'll just be blue) so it sounds like you have it correctly.

This journal ironically comes up with google searches about this problem!
But I really appreciate you writing this out! My Intuos 4 suffered that fate so I got an Intuos 5 and now after a few years it's loose and having trouble charging/connecting so I'm at a loss. I do wanna try this out though and if it helps, I'll absolutely charge it a few hours inbetween if I can use it with no cord to worry about!! As a commission artist it'd literally save me if this works out ;v; So I'll see about giving it a try before resorting to buying a new one!

Thank you for the solution dude, this is really helpful! I'm on my THIRD wacom intuos 5 at the moment, and it just broke down (no signal). I had my first 2 replaced thanks to warranty, but the last one has lasted me for two years, because of careful handling and the purchase of another USB-Chord which fit more precisely and left little wiggle-room, which made it near impossible for the Micro-USB connector to bend. Alas, today it kicked the bucket. I'll try coaxing the IT-department at work for some help on the whole internal soldering-solution, but if that doesn't work I'll go the wireless route.
I had my Intuos 3 for five years before the usb-connector broke... Very disappointed with the fragile quality of this generation of the Intuos.
Thank you!

no problem!!! yea unfortunately wacom's intuos 5 have had a lot of issues... it sucks because they can get away with it since there aren't any close competitors ( I mean monoprice and huion are starting to pick up but imo wacom still reigns), and their customer support isnt all that great.
sorry for the late reply and I hope you got everything figured out!

:') Ikr! I had a breakdown fosho.. But I opened my up tablet and looked at the fallen off port that same day. It didn't take much of the circuit with it so some electrician would be able to solder it back on for like 20$ my dad says he knows someone. Sometimes when the port breaks it can be messy and take off a chunk of electrical strips with it. IM GLAD MINE DIDNT! also there's a tutorial on tumblr how to solder a USB cable directly onto the circuit board. theaydin.tumblr.com/post/31005… Its really straightforward. so you'd never have to deal with waiting 4 hours for the battery to charge. maybe your dad could help you with it
. this usb falling off problem is apparently the second most common problem of the intuos but EVIL WACOM DIDNT DECIDE TO FIX IT BECAUE OF THE MONEY THEY MAKE OUT OF THIS.... UGH. Thanks again <3

OH YEA I ALWAYS FORGOT the US is also weird about their sockets
hmmmmm I dont think you can plug the charger into anything, but I think if you search specifically for a universal charger with your socket type I'm sure they have non- 3 socket; like when I was looking around I saw a lot of 2 socket ones?
