In the video, There are a couple steps you took that I would like to know a little more details on.

1) at 2:00, when you first start the coloring, what process did you take to set each part up as a separate layer? like you would block in each item with color but how did a blue on black help this? (also as a general question, is there a way to form a border with color and fill it without leaving behind a 1px line between the brushed in border and the fill? like you did with the hair)

2) how did you change the original shading layer into a gradient pink on the skin so quickly?

Thanks in advance!

Hi ! I shall answer your questions ! D: Well, if I can. <<"

1) I don't quite understand your question. X] I'm using a software called Easy Paint Tool SAI that allows me to create as layers as I want. There's many layers for the lines of the body, of the hair, of the face etc... Many layers for the skin color, for the red of the dress, for the hair etc... Having many layers is really helpful since you can draww over or under something without altering it. For example, when I finished to draw the lineart, I create a new layer where I put the color. If I don't like the layer with the color, I can remove it and start again without even touching my lineart. D:
For the blue on black, that's actually what the magic wand does. X] It's a selection tool that makes things easier. It selects the inside of the lineart and you fill it with whatever color you want. D: And then, it's colored. D:
Hope it answers this question. X]

2) For the gradient, I used the "brush" tool from Paint Tool SAI that blends the colors. D: It's easy to use and gives almost everytime a good result. :3 It's an awesome tool. D:

You can try Easy Paint Tool SAI by downloading the software there: www.systemax.jp/en/sai/
You have 30 days of trial. D: If you like it, you can buy it and use forever ! D: It's not expensive. 40$ for the license. X]

The software is really easy to use, but if you need help on how to start on it, there is a tutorial for that:
neko-cosmickitty.deviantart.co…
I just gave you the link to part one. Part two link is in the description. :3 And it's just the basics. For more advanced tutorials on Paint Tool SAI, you will have to search for yourself. D: There's lot of it on Deviant Art. Just search for "Easy Paint Tool SAI" on DeviantArt, and you will have dozen of tutorials. X]

I hope I helped you. D:

If you have more questions, feel free to ask. D:

Oh! Thanks!

And yes, I do enjoy my layers! but what I was curious about was your approach to coloring. as in, how you go about coloring a "hair layer" or "present layer". in a step-by-step process.

You did answer my questions (and probably just summarized both tutorials you linked me to! lol) So thank you for that!
and thanks for the link to SAI! And for answering me so well/quickly!
