Description
This is my first attempt at drawing a coloured artwork with digital means (or to be correct: it is the first attempt that I dare to upload ...): Wacom intuos with painter X3 I have still much to learn and a long way to go until I feel as comfortable with the results as I felt with the colour pencils. Yet I see a faint light at the horizonI would like to dedicate this first piece to Damon1984. It was his wonderful art here on DA that finally made me pick up the "brush" again after all these years

And now I see the progress you've made since that piece (which was already awesome in my eyes XD ) and I go all Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

You'll make the same progress, I'm positive! It took me from Feb 2015 (when this drawing was done) to August to realize that airbrush isn't necessarily the best tool when trying to draw photorealistic. August I got myself a corel painter X3 tutorial book (unfortunately most of the tutorial literature out there is for Adobe photoshop) and began to understand a bit more about the program I'm using. From then on till this month I used the 6B real pencil for almost everything from sketching to all coloured painting. Then suggested I should try not to use the blender tool so often but brushes where I obtain the smoothness with the strokes themselves. So I started experimenting with the oil brushes and I guess I will be at them for some more time to come until the next idea strikes.
The learning process is a lot of fun. I feel like 20 years ago before I stopped drawing for a long time. It's nice to be back

How com Jadzia Dax is wearing a blue collar instead of a green one on her uniform?

I see the colour of the science division as blue - yet I have to admit the blue I used in this drawing is way too brillant, it should be much more on the grey side. The slip happened cause I used a Jadzia-screenshot as reference where she was wearing the older uniforms with the bright blue shoulders. I just used this colour without thinking.

No Jadzia's collar is Green, not blue. I mean I can see how you can think the color is blue because the colors look close to blue; but it really is green. From Next Generation on Science and Medical Officers are Green. Only in Star Trek Enterprise & The Original Series are the Science and Medical officers are blue. Here is an image of Jazia Dax from the episode His Way. Even though it is kind of dark in the shadows but it is green. ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/album…
It is also green in this piece as well even though it is a different uniform but the collar is the same color. ilnere.deviantart.com/art/Jadz…

Sorry, I don't want to be argumentative (if this is the correct English expression). You're right, the colour in the drawing is wrong, there is no arguing about it.
Yet I was extremely curious why I would realize a colour as blue while you see it as green. In my childhood I had a lot of arguments going on whether the middle colour in our traffic lights was yellow or orange - so I know that people percieve the same colour in different ways.
The last weeks while I was working with my digital painting program I learned that the program would "see" a colour very differently from what I would have chosen. So I made the test with the screenshot you linked in your post. I opened the pic in my painter program and switched to the dropper, collecting colours in various places on Dax' collar. The results in RGB were all in the grey part of hues from dark blue to turquoise with 15/28/26 (R/G/B) being on the farthest side in the direction of green. Yet none of them showed in the green colour panel.
Again ... I apologize for this nitpicking stuff ... it just awakened my curiosity.

This is so great <3 <3 <3 You seem to be quite happy to do some digital art~ I find Kira very beautiful here~
You know what? I watched the episode DS9 "Trials and Tribbulations" with my kids this afternoon (I have it on my TOS DVDs) and they were so happy to recognize the characters on your drawing afterwards <3 <3 I show them many of your drawings, they were fascinated ^^ They're so used to see only TOS characters (not to say only Spock and Kirk...) on my drawings XD
And I've just ordered the DVD box set of DS9 (a birthday gift for myself, in advance...) !!! I knew I had to watch it, you really convinced me in the numerous discussions we had, and now I'll be able to do so~ That's so great XD Convincing me to watch StarTrek without Spock, that's no mean feat, I can assure you XD

It is fun with the digital means, yet I'm still way from being content. Whenever I have a look at my old pencil drawings I see what a long path I still have to travel. The digital pics I create are still way too smooth for my liking. I guess I should stop doing whole pictures and keep to simple portraits until I get the hang of the colours. Unfortunately I didn't have much time those last weeks, so I did not draw a single line .

I have no idea but I believe that digital drawing cannot totally imitate traditional pencil drawing? I mean it might allow you do do some effect impossible to do with pencils, but however some things are less possible to do with digital art?
I mean, each media has its specificities?

It's still too "flat" for my liking. When I compare the colouring to my pencil drawings there are lightyears inbetween. Yet the Trial and Error approach is a lot of fun.
