"Damn it…what the hell?" I murmured, leaning heavily on my blade as I raised my head, taking in the scene before me. "Lassic, it doesn't have to be this way…" I growled, clenching my katana.

"I didn't want to do this either Hayate… Please forgive me. But you've chosen to side with Kri's enemies. I will not betray her as you did. Now, raise your head. Raise your head…so I can strike you down!" Lassic's blade came across in a great arc as he swung…I had to dive back and away to keep my head on, though I lost my own blade in the progress!

"Lassic, don't you see?? Kri's not really the princess, she's just an impos-"

"Enough of your lies!" Lassic growled, hefting his blade sternly. "It's time we ended this!" He shouted, coming forward in a rush. I stepped to the side, letting the massive sword dive down into the ground. The world spun as I did, a foot catching my former ally in the chest, knocking him a step back. The backswing caught me across the stomach, the flat of the blade striking the air from my lungs as I stumbled away, falling to my knees.

"Lassic!"

As I glanced around, I felt a distinct heaviness to my limbs as I regarded the scene with an odd sense of detachment; Kara's own blade as massive as she was tall, swung as though in slow motion, cleaving the head of a royal guardsman as she spun, blocking Twixy's claws with the pommel. She lashed out with a kick, catching Twixy in the gut before she kicked out to the side, pushing Leena back. Her massive armored gauntlet rose up, grabbing the tip of Kri's blade as it slashed at her neck, and she moved forward in a rush, catching her with a rough tackle. She tripped Kri up, rolling over the pink neko as she slashed vertically with her blade, convincing Twixy and Leena to back up a step or get their bellies cut.

I dived to the side, raising my arms in defense as my opponent's blade came down, cutting a shallow slice into my forearms. I glanced to the side as I rolled, kicking away Lassic's blade as it came across again. I managed to get to my feet at the same time I heard a familiar click from right behind me.

"Hayate, why? You bastard, tell me! Why did you betray us!" Hiro roared. I'm fairly certain that he was holding his gun to the back of my head. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw that Kara was blocking Kri's scythe with one hand while she had Twixy by the throat with her other, striking her into the ground. A gust of wind rose up suddenly, blood appearing in a wound as the wind sliced into my shoulder.

I winced, shaking my head as I glanced around. There was a ring of rebels in a concentric ring around us, and a group of guardsmen around the giants as well.

For some reason, a sense of rage started to surge in my chest, growing and growing, expanding as I turned to regard my former friends. "Sorry to spoil your plans, but I can't afford to die now! I can not fall!!"
