☆ Blade Knight (ブレイドナイト) is a hearty Helper to both Kirby and Meta Knight in Super Star and Ultra, as well as being a standard stage enemy in the combat-oriented titles. Blade Knight is a stout, awkwardly/intriguingly shaped creature, wears green armor and wields a sword, and yields Sword Ability when eaten. His armor is very strange to me-- covering only his oblong head and non-existent shoulders (seems like with armor like that, it would get in the way rather than do any good :/)His sword is different from Kirby's and Meta Knight's swords, for it has two "claws" near the tip of the blade, as well as a guard/grip that covers the fingers of his glove. Both Blade's gloves and boots are enforced with protective square plates, like other Knight characters in the series. His torso varies by appearance, as he sometimes wears a belt or shoulder strap across his blue body, but here, I have chosen to simply segment the stomach (mainly because I used sprite references for these sculptures instead of official art). As such, I did not outline the part of his long helmet where the red tassel attaches in gold, since that detail came with the anime adaption. A gold insignia also adorns his shoulder guards- a jagged crescent that appears nowhere else in Dream Land-- just what could this mean? Blade also wears a pink mouth guard under his helm that hides a secret, unveiled when the enemy is attacked.

☆☆ Sword Ability is a favorite among the modern fans of Kirby, and where there's Sword Ability, Blade Knight will be there, as fodder to be feasted upon. Ever since Kirby's Adventure, Sword has been one of the standard extended Abilities for games outside the "Dark Matter Trilogy". Blade Knight and Sword Knight use the ability equally well, attempting to chop up the player when they draw near. As with all newly-concieved Abilities, Sword started out as very limited in attack. However, it was still quite versatile, as the Ability allowed for a sword spin while airborn, and pioneered the underwater weapon-attack. In that regard, Sword really was actually one of the first multi-use Abilities, later expanded upon in Super Star. As a Helper, Blade Knight has all of the attacks that Sword-wielding Kirby has. In Meta Knightmare Ultra, Blade Knight can also be summoned to assist Meta Knight in battle, along with a violet-colored Sword Knight, yet everyone wants Sword Knight because he is all awesome with his upper sword thrust, that they all just insta-kill Blade Knight when he unfortunately spawns. Both are also playable in Helper to Hero, but again, who can resist playing with a red Sword Knight?

☆☆☆ I gotta admit, I've never been too impressed with Blade Knight, or Sword Ability, for that matter. His body shape is just plain confusing-- like they chopped off a person's head and the helmet landed on his torso, with mountainous shoulders! Couple that with boring old sword slash, and Meta Knight's entourage from HnK, and here is a character I would gladly replace with another similarly named foe-- "Blade" the tough, sword carrying can-knight from Kirby's Dream Land 2. But, Blade Knight is not all boring... as said, he has a secret single eye beneath his visor, and old official art shows him with two bug-like antenna, rather than red hair. Taking into consideration that the single Waddle Doo in the anime brandishes a sword, a theory of mine suggests that Blade Knights are actually armored Waddle Doos, or a deformed species relative to them. In conclusion, I won't forget to mention Gigant Edge, the Sword miniboss from Return to Dream Land Wii. His design is so sweet, I'd love to play as that character~
