Description
.. to fly.Okay, this is a special moment for me. This picture is one of my most precious drawings. I made the sketch back in 2007 and kept working on this for nearly three years. I don't know how many times I erased the background, deleted the colouring etc. I started this drawing when my mum heard her best friend had cancer. How many feathers one needs to fly? What does it take to reach your goal. What does it take for a human to be happy? I don't know, but sometimes, it's less than you think. Strange, I've been looking forward to show this to you guys for so long, but I'm out of words to explain the drawing. So I'll just say: enjoy. Comments are appreciated.

P.S. May fix some things ~Kaylink (who is awesome) pointed out to me earlier, when I asked her for advice. This will include things such as the shape of the tigers head and adding some snow to the rocks.

He looks soo fluffy makes me wanna hug him.
I love the pose and his face-focusing on where too jump.
And the title is so creative too.
And I really love how you kept the focus just on him and a small part of the rock and you kept the big snowy mountains a little blurry so that he pops out.
I cant even find the words to describe how beautiful this looks.
Your skills are amazing just keep it up.

Holy cow. You, my friend, have the dedication of a true artist. I don't think I could ever stick with a single piece for so long, and I cannot commend you enough for it.
Absolutely gorgeous finished product.

I have to apologize for the extreme lateness of this comment. Truth be told, I was in the midst of writing up a nice comment a few days ago but someone gave me some news that totally killed the mood. And unthinkingly, I didn't even bother to save what I had typed.
But here I am now.
First off, Eva you amaze me.
For several reasons. First, for your ability to stick with a single piece for so long. You astound me. I have the attention span of a fly most days, depending on the piece, I have to finish it within a week or I'll lose interest in it. It's a habit I'd like to break, actually. I've got this one piece that is very old, but unfinished ([link] ). I'd like to finish it, and everyone around me agrees. Someday. I need to find it again first. xD
Another reason. The emotion you are able to convey in a painting. I'm jealous. It's always been something I've striven for but I don't think I'm achieving. To me, a truly great piece of artwork is one that can stir up emotion inside me. Therefore, amazing job, it sure as hell worked. :)
The determination in the tiger's eyes strike me as amazing, and that may be the most impacting part of the painting for me. Set your eyes on the prize and you will achieve. A wonderful lesson for all.
Now, the painting itself.
Great job when it comes to distance, the background totally brings out the main subjects (I'd be disappointed if they faded into the background, they deserve to stand out). And the background itself has a nice selection of tones, nothing too distracting but they're all pleasant to look at, and not at all dull or depressing. I feel the chill of the air as well, but it's not a bad sort of chill, if you know what I mean? Its like those crisp winter mornings (that tend to come with temperatures of -40 degrees celsius where I come from...) with plenty of sunlight.
Main subjects now.
Beautifully executed. The details in the fur of the tiger are stunning, I'm glad you had the patience to do that so well. The bird as well is a perfect touch, like that guardian that helps you through your troubled times. Everyone needs someone like that, I would hate to be without one (I'm lucky enough to have several people like that). Watching over you, being there when you feel as if you cannot press on. The way the bird is looking at the tiger as well, like a concerned look. Like "I will catch you if you fall, but I need to look to see if you're falling first". xP
The floating feathers are an excellent touch as well, I kind of got the impression that each represents somewhat of a soul. Like the tiger is being propelled by the love and care of many spirits, being pushed when it does not have the will to fight any longer. It's quite touching, actually.
So I think you know by now that I love this.

And now I, in return, have to apologize for the extreme lateness of this reply! To be honest, I'm still a bit humbled by this amazing comment. I've typed up several replies but none were really to my liking. Anyway, I really want you to know I was touched by this, thanks a lot
OH AND, have you seen Inception yet? I was an instant fan, saw it two nights in a row (it was just as good the 2d time ). Loved the story, the filming was gorgeous and the acting was great (I love Ellen Page for her un-girly walking). Man, how I wished that I had written/directed that. It's not fair! xD
How are yer holidays?

I saw Inception a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and LOVED it.
I was actually raving about that movie to my aunt at dinner tonight. I want to see it again so bad.
And with each passing movie that I see of hers, I'm becoming more and more of a fan of Ellen Page. She's so unique. And the fact that she's got that tomboy edge to her is awesome. Goes to show that not every female celebrity has to be a Barbie.

Aww, I didn't know you had a boyfriend!
I haven't seen that many movies with Ellen Page, but 2 of the 3 I saw are with my all time favs (Juno and Inception). I also saw Hard Candy: horrific, but a really good movie with top notch acting.

And that's great to hear. I'm also in a nice, steady relationship now (for about 1.5 years now). It's a good feeling

WHOA, girl, you're amazing. I really like this piece, you did nice work with all those little details there. There's great amount of power and energy in this and you did great work with fur and weathers. The rocks are cool too, but if I was you, I'd do the cracks well, little more detailed and not necessarily as sharp as you did. I think they'd need a little more variation of colours: lights and shadows - of course as they're cracks in the rock, they are mostly in shadow (however in their edges there's light parts too) but there's different amount of shadow in different places.
The background looks good and I definitely love how you do the mountains. They look realistic and very nice. However, I think they could be a little sharper (I got a little shocked of the smudginess and got "omg, has my vision went worse?!" moment for a second - but maybe I'm a sensitive person). To create a distant look, there could be little-little details in there or maybe colder colours and not so much smudginess. The contrast between the creatures' and the background's sharpness creates atmosphere and feeling of space but I think the effect would work even if there was less of it.
The anatomy of the animals seems pretty correct to me. I love the head of the tiger and the bird is just fabulous. What about tiger's neck? I think I see a little anatomy mistake there but I wouldn't count on that because I'm not an anatomy expert myself. I'd say that there's a little too big "hump-thingie" in his/her neck and the neck could be longer. Head might be a little too big too but it's not the end of the world if it was.
Overall this piece is just great and I can really see the huge amount of work you've done with it. I really appreciate!

No problem at all! It's just part of my philosophy to try to help my friends and great artist if I just have anything real to say about their works.
Hmmmm. I wish I could meet you but I can't as the school starts next week and my parents would definitely not allow me to travel in Helsinki as it's that far away from here. But glad that you can come in Finland, travelling is great great. Have fun in Helsinki! Well, when I visited Helsinkin last time, I went to Korkeasaari zoo and Linnanmäki amusement park and of course shopping and just seeing the downtown itself.

This is really good! Wow!
The fur detailing is amazing, I love how you have drawn each strand and how they appear to be blowing in the wind of the tiger's jump too. The anatomy is really lovely and I adore the face and wow that eye looks real! The bird also looks gorgeous, I love all the feathers. The background is also really good, it has such a realism to it and I agree with another commenter in that you blurred in very well. Your work really paid off!!

Your work is awesome too! I especially love how each painting has its own atmosphere. I sometimes do not manage to give my work a lot of feeling, because I focus too much on realism. So, thank you for being inspirational

WOOOHOOOH FINALLY YOU FINISHED IT!
I sort of exploded of happiness when I saw you'd finally uploaded it.
Even the artist's comments are epic Really sweet. And hey, the other front leg turned out nice, too! I also love the fur on the belly and how the head is a bit darker than the body. The bird turned out great, too.
I think it's really nice how you actually only drew one bird, but a lot of colourful feathers. It symbolizes the meaning even more, how tiny happenings, and just one person you love or like a whole lot (or both) can brighten your whole world, in a lot more ways than just in the love itself. If you get what I mean? It's a bit hard to explain. But it only proves that this drawing has a lot more to it than just some random animals.
Oh and I'm so happy I could finally fave it but a bit sad that I'm not the first one.. anyway, I hope this will get 100 fav's! or 200, or 300, or 1000, or 87969584000000...
