Description
I got lucky when I found this solitary bee feeding in slow motion on some mint flowers -normally this time of year the heat makes them hyperactive even in the early morning.Tech Specs: Canon 1D Mark III (F10, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@4x) + a diffused MT-24EX. I used a sunflower leaf for the background to keep it from being black and there is no natural light in this photo (all flash).

None of my images are focus stacked -I'm just very careful about where I place the area of acceptable focus.

I don't have experience with DSLRs, but (besides the obvious INCREDIBLE image) it amazes me how you can shoot with at 100 ISO and F10!

The MT24-EX is a flash so that is why he could shoot at ISO 100 and f/10.

I know he used flash... but still, I think that I couldn't do that with an analog slr

At large magnifications (close focussing distances), very little external light reaches the sensor, so most (actually all) of the light is because of the flash. Since the flash duration is usually less than 1/400 second, it 'freezes' all motion, and your shutter speed doesn't matter much, sice the whole image that your camera saves will be due to the flash. That's why it's important to have a well-diffused flash. Also, you can shoot at ISO 100 and f/10...even with a film SLR, I think. I learnt a lot from the guy himself

This is a great image ... so close and so sharp. Tripod or hand-held?

Thanks
All of my macro work is hand held.
