One of the strangest grasshoppers I've ever seen.Tech specs: Canon 40D (F13, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon EFS-60mm macro lens with 50mm of extension (@ ~2x) + an MT-24EX macro twin flash (-1 1/3 FEC).

Actually the mouth isn't in the frame -the area toward the lower right is the antenna

Trying to figure out where the body ends, and the head begins! Very strange grasshopper indeed!

Believe it or not that's just a small section of the critter's head -the appendages at the lower right are part of its antenna.

I looked up slant faced grasshopper pictures on google, and they do indeed have weird upward slanted heads! some are more pronounced than others, but it is an unusual species! I also like mantids that look like flowers or orchids. that would be cool if somehow you could get pictures of those!

We need a full body shot.
Not sure I've seen this one but I have seen a pointy head like this on another grass hopper. But it was pointing sharply up and they are usually leaf green.

That's it, and they can take on both green and brown -depends on the time of the year and if they've molted or not. I saw both colors when I was out shooting last Saturday.

do u go around catching insect? That's what I used to do, catch grass hoppers/dragonfly/damsel/honey bees.

For that shot I did catch it and hold it in my hand while I took a few photos

It's the face (with the eye in the upper left part of the frame) and the antenna toward the bottom right.
