I can't possibly tell you just HOW much I love this. Vash is pretty much my favorite anime character of all time, and you managed to capture him with a fantastic sense of realism. The piece is absolutely gorgeous, and THANK YOU for making me no longer feel bad for thinking an anime character is hott. I now have a more realistic reference to find attractive. ;]
The only criticism I have is that I think his lips are a little too pouty and pronounced. Besides that, though, it's brilliant. GRACIAS!

Hmmm, let's see, overall
GOOD:
The colors. Very nice.
The Interpretation: it's Vash-yet-real. Good job with that.
Expression: Great.
TO IMPROVE:
It's Vash, but, not as identifable as it could be.
The Left leg/hip seems off.

Thank you for your comments and observations! I appreciate them.
Yeah, this was my first attempt at making an anime/manga character realistic, so it was a learning process for me. When I do another realistic Vash portrait, it will be more traditional, with his jacket closed, perhaps even his glasses and gun.
Yeah, the left leg n hip have always bugged me, but I didn't know what else to do with it, so I gave up and moved on. The next portrait should be much better.
Thanks again!

"Gave up and moved on" is sometimes just what you have to do. And the piece is quite good, so that's a good choice.
For your first attempt this is really quite good. I'm looking forward to your next works!

Sorry, I know you going for a realistis turn of anime chars but while you do a fatastic job on coloring I dont like the base picture. To me at least the arms are really short. Infact the arms are my only real beef. The torsoe and head are good. His sitty position look akward. Overall really good work just a few little things bug the hell out of me.

Nice work with the detailing. Hmm...is it just me or does his face look a little dull compared to the rest of him? I mean he doesn't need to shine like he's been dumped in chicken grease but maybe just a little tweaking.

......you're Never going to remember me ....
but I commented on the black and white sketch of this picture A LONG TIME AGO in fact possibly more than a year ago.
And you recommended that I check out your Wolfwood version as well ... and I then lost the link to you and never saw you again T_T
But hey somehow I found you again and I ain't lettin' you get away!! *muaha*
Anyway .. certainly has a "comic-book" feel to it. Not too much of the realism but still enough to stand out. Very nice and subtle ... and I think you know this already probably but it looks great. Personally I prefer the black and white version but that's just my own tastes ...
Just something that caught my eye, the face texture or colour or shading ... not sure since I'm absolutely useless when it comes to colour, but something seems a little off. Not sure what it is though.
Apart from my picky picky criticisms it's a fabulous picture. Well done ~~

Hey, I'm glad you found me again! heh heh. I really do appreciate your thoughtful comments.
Ya know, I find it interesting that some people prefer the black & white version better. It means I really accomplished what I set out to do, without the aid of color ya know?
I'm eventually going to draw Vash again, which I know will be even better cuz now I have a larger pad, which means it'll be bigger and with more detail! Plus, this was my first attempt. I'll make the next one more traditional with his jacket closed and maybe with his shades and gun. Some people want the Trigun-Maximum uniform, which is actually better, but less recognizable, since they didn't use it in the anime. I'm still working it out. I'm also going to do a better Legato that fits better into this series than first one. I want to see more of his body.
Thanks again for the compliments!

Haha ... I checked out your Legato but I had envisioned him differently ... it's still a great picture.
Maybe you could post close-ups of the various details in clothing and machinery? Just an idea but ... I've seen some artists post little links in their comments, to give a nice up-close of all that yummy detail. Could be an extra when you're feeling generous
The colour is very cool ... but I noticed that it's done digitally. Do you colour by hand at all?

Hey, I REALLY appreciate that compliment that you would like a huge version for your wall!! that means lot to me, and I'm really glad you like this!!! I was hoping to make a poster-sized print through DA, but i scanned it in at 300dpi, which apparently isn't big enough, even though the original is 13X15. Well, I am going to just re-scan it at 600dpi, but I'm going to have to completely re-color the whole thing again, which is a real bummer.
I'm going to draw another portrait of Vash that is still realistic, but more traditional with his jacket closed, and perhaps his sunglasses and gun. Keep an eye out for it. In the meantime, I am finishing my portrait of his brother Knives.
Thanks again!

It stinks you'll have to color it all over, though I would buy a print of that in a heartbeat, I love the uncolored version too. It's just... I'll admit, I'm a bit of a fan girl, though not a rabid psycho one, and Vash has been my favourite for a very very long time. I also liked your other ones of Wolfwood and Legato, though Vash is still my favourite among the other ones. I especially like his jeans, and every time I look at this I can't help but admire it. It's just too beautiful. I will be watching, I love you're entire gallery, you have amazing talent.

If only they would make a live action movie of trigun now.
And you could do the poster cause this is so very fantastic.
The angle is perfect though his expression seems alittle to clueless for Vash.
I love the shading along with the color skeem.

Thank you very much for te compliments and observation. I do appreciate it. I am going to do another Vash portrait that's still realistic, but more traditional. You know, with his jacket closed, and maybe his gun...I'm still figuring it out. I'm finishing up Knives now to complete this particular Trigun series I have going. Did you see my Legato and Wolfwood portraits?

Yes yes I did though it's just something about the Vash one that strands out.
I think it's the best of the three.
I can't wait to see knives.
And can I make a little suggestion.....
If your gunna have vash with his jacket closed could you have him in his Trigun Maximum coat it's just so much cool and I think you could make it look even more fantastic.
If you just type in Trigun Maximum I'm sure you can find tons of reference [that's if you don't already read the manga ]
