Description This is something I've been wanting to try for a while - a straight recreation (as opposed to the mash-up cover recreations I've done in the past) of the cover of one of the comics that helped change me into a comic fan as a kid.

In this case, Marvel Two-In-One #60, a fun story in the middle of a great run of fun Thing stories.

The original cover was created by Bob Budiansky and Joe Rubenstein, copyright Marvel Comics.

Here is the original cover: images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__c…

It's stunning how you re-create the gradations from the cover though ink.  I love how you depicted the people in the background.

On the original cover, the background people were inked as normal, and then the artists applied white zip a tone dots to give the 'gradient' feel.   On mine, I didn't have any zip a tone, so I simulated the effect by simple 90 degree hatches of equal offsets.

It works brilliantly.  Did you already know how to do that as an effect or did you improvise the look just for this cover?

Thanks!  I improvised the same effect on Dr. Strange's pants on the previous cover I did  (similar zipatone pattern) and it worked there, so I went ahead and did it here, too.

Stunning work, as usual! Is there a cover you can't recreate?

MTIO was such a fun series, especially the middle era with all that Perez art and Project Pegasus whatsis going on.

Yeah, I remember at the time I wasn't a huge fan of Perez but I look back now and it's a totally different approach to what is showcased now. I't s so very clean and solid and you know you're looking at art from a different era. And I like it.

Thanks, squire!  Ah, that cover blurb was a trick statement, which I won't spoil for you if you haven't read the issue.  Unless you want me to.

The three villains are in reality a trio of schlubs that the Thing fought in some forgettable past story, who engineered some arcane method to animate the three major villain statues (and imbue them with powers, too) whilst inhabiting them with their psyches, kind of Avatar-style.
