I know this sounds trite, but these axioms are no less true:
- Draw/sketch a lot. Do it as much as you feel driven to.
- Practice drawing from life. Although the style you ultimately arrive upon may be something other than realism (like my comics), this is invaluable.
- Take some classes and/or get together with other artists - you can learn a huge amount by working with others.
- Years later, you'll look at your new work compared to your old work and say "holy crap, it worked!"
Of course, then you have people who somehow draw magnificently when they're young, simply by instinct/talent. I envy those folks!

I would draw a lot, but my drawings are, well...suckish. I can draw cute little frogs and monkeys, but that's about it. Most of my friends are writers, and that's mostly what I do.

I was having trouble with it full size also for a bit (I bumped it from 800px to 900px) but it seems to be ok now..

Now, if I had tried such a huge undertaking, (well, I NEVER would have done half this good) but wouldn't it be Murphy's Law that I get to the very end, the last figure, and I SPILL something on it?!

part of the thrill with drawing with ink & a brush is the fear that I will louse it up somehow with one false move... every time I finish up on a piece is a big relief in that sense!

My normal rate for something this size (a full comic page, 11x17 or 14x17) is $80, although this one pushed that envelope a bit... took me 3 times as long as a regular piece!
