wow amazing! just curious how you or the commisioner picked out the characters for this piece. itrs seems so random (i notice the lord pumpkin character from sludge in there from the old malibu comics...) very impressive!

Thank you! I was very surprised about the DD this morning and the slew of faves on this piece (which I did a year ago).
The commissioner is someone I've worked with several times - he's got a 'list' of a couple hundred specific characters that he commissions artists to work with. He likes to have recreations of classic past covers done utilizing different combinations of these characters rather than the original - i.e. he's had several people re-do the cover of say, Secret Wars #1 with different combos of these multi-publisher characters (hence, the 'multiverse' theme). I've done a couple other for him that were straight cover recreations - FF #236 and All-Star Squadron #50.
For this one I just felt like doing a huge character mashup - I do one every few years because they're so fun, and he loved it.
As for the rationale for which characters he wants... I have no idea. I think he just really likes variety.

So many people... and my eyes went immediately to Space Ghost. I'm not sure what this says about me, but I find this entire piece awesome nonetheless. One day, when I feel like committing hand-suicide, I might have to ask to color one of these. LoL!

Thanks a million! This took me 3 weekends to do, and my fingers are sore as hell from gripping my ink brush, so I don't think I could do regular comics.
I love doing these, though... they're fun to look at afterwards once I've gotten over staring at it from inches away.
The characters are all from a large pool chosen by the guy who commissioned this - I got to pick out most of them from that pool, which made it fun.

I think you could do a comic book story, just don't do something akin to CRISIS and you could do it. I'd pick it up.
