Description
This is something I've been wanting to try for a while - a straight recreation (as opposed to the mash-up cover recreations I've done in the past) of the cover of one of the comics that helped change me into a comic fan as a kid.In this case, Weird Science #19, one of the best Wally Wood sci-fi covers, in my opinion.
The original cover was created by Wally Wood. This recreation is much larger than my normal ones, done on 18x24" bristol. Super big!
Here is the original cover:

That story...if only Hitchcock and Rod Serling had collaborated, they could have brought this masterpiece of suspense to the screen. A brilliant take on Poe's "Telltale Heart".

Thanks, Gary! I did it real huge so I could get as many Woodsian details as close as possible.

Thank you, sir! It was tough to pick just one Woody cover to do! #20 is another favorite of mine, but with so many small figures I was afraid I wouldn't do it justice.

Spectacular homage to the master - in this case, bigger is better!

EC stuff always did seem "bigger" to me. I think they worked twice-up as opposed to the more modern 1.5x-up, too.

Thanks! I did it really huge so it'd be easier to ink.

Thanks! EC art would be even more gorgeous, but the covers were covered by that huge logo block, and the insides had such big word balloons.

I kind of felt the same way. I don't know what changed my mind about EC's graphic design practices. I did try to do an EC-style cover for a comic some years ago and I really started studying what they do in terms of lettering style and cover design and I think I became enamored with how it all looked.
