Description This is something I've been wanting to try for a while - a straight recreation (as opposed to the mash-up cover recreations I've done in the past) of the cover of one of the comics that helped change me into a comic fan as a kid.

In this case, Uncanny X-Men 168 - The second X-Men comic I ever bought, and one of my favorite Paul Smith covers

The original cover was created by Paul Smith, copyright Marvel Comics.

Beautiful! You should post this on the Penciljack forum, Smith is an active member there and probably would get a kick out of this!

Thanks, Antonio! Although I am afraid of the Penciljack forums, I am too much of a chicken to face criticism.

Plus, I think I'd be intimidated by having the original creator see this... I did meet Paul Smith once at the San Diego con, though.

That's clearly impossible, but I appreciate the props.

I've got that issue! I'll be damned if this isn't a dead-on likeness. If I recall correctly, the issue features my favorite X-baddies, the "Brood".

Yep, it's the follow-up to the 1982-83 Brood war, where Kitty fights alone, and we get the first appearance of Lockheed the dragon!

btw, I added your and 's Portland Underground fan art to our FB page!

His 'ribbon hair' is lots of fun, I've always liked that about his work.

He had this simplicity that I really admire. I miss his work. Though when he would put PMS on his work, I still have to fight the childish side of me.
