Description
I have nothing against anyone wearing military insignia, I do draw the line at wearing of gallantry medals that haven't been earned though. This guy is wearing a George Cross. The George Cross is the civilian counterpart of the Victoria Cross (VC) and the highest gallantry award for civilians as well as for military personnel in actions which are not in the face of the enemy or for which purely military honours would not normally be granted.
Maybe I do him a disservice but I doubt it.

Maybe you should have asked him about the cross, and found out his side of the story?

Odd looking chap Perhaps he did earn it, or it's a family heirloom.

It would be a repro as a genuine item could be worth £50,000 or more.

well, a very unusual character. The ordinary situation and surroundings create a great contrast with him
