Description Hands are love, hands are life

Note: These are referenced from my own hands. I have hypermobility syndrome and can (often unknowingly) stretch my limbs beyond the range of that of normal humans. I'm not sure if all of these poses are doable for normal people.

I appreciate this, for some reason, hands alone have never bothered me too much but when they are interact8ng with each other or another hand, its very difficult.

Tremendous drawing skill (and hand positioning). Hands, even drawn one at a time, are difficult to draw for any artist, but you have made it look easy. I like the way you've high-lighted and angled the edges; helps me get a better sense of layout when drawing the hand.

My GF has hypermobility! She's been diagnosed with EDS.

These look fantastic and some of them may be possible for others.

DamaiMikaz In reply to Crystal-Zen [2018-05-27 06:28:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I might very likely have the same. Lots of bruised and sprained joints and easily susceptible for injury. I can keep most of it under control with training these days, but it takes quite a lot of training XD

Very nice sketchdump, as always!

I think it's cool that you reference your own body I do that to, super useful. Which sometimes leads to awkward situations where I have my left hand stiffly raised (and sometimes twisted) in the required position while drawing with the right one, whenever I need to draw a complex hand gesture.

AliceSacco [2018-05-26 19:13:48 +0000 UTC]

Some are hypermobile and some can't even move their fingers the opposite way. My index fingers are extremely stiff. Middle, ring and pinky fingers are more mobile, normal range, I think.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DamaiMikaz In reply to AliceSacco [2018-05-26 20:03:32 +0000 UTC]

I have severe hypermobilty and can bend my fingers 90 degrees backwards with ease. I tried not to bend them too far for the references... but tbh... I don't really know what a normal humans exact range is.
The reason that I mention it because I've had multiple people mention on previous pictures that the drawings are wrong because the poses are impossible to do. Well... they aren't for me XD

Drawing-Diversions In reply to DamaiMikaz [2018-05-26 20:44:32 +0000 UTC]

This is the first time I hear of this syndrome. I have it as well, and can also bend my fingers 90 degrees backwards (up to 100 degrees). So now I share a rare trait with an artist I admire. Does that make me a good artist now? XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DamaiMikaz In reply to Drawing-Diversions [2018-05-26 21:58:26 +0000 UTC]

You're better off not having it. It makes for very unstable joints and shitloads of injuries

Drawing-Diversions In reply to DamaiMikaz [2018-05-27 05:28:19 +0000 UTC]

Well that is unnerving. Hopefully I'm wrong and I don't have it.

DamaiMikaz In reply to Drawing-Diversions [2018-05-27 06:16:40 +0000 UTC]

If you had you would've known by now

AliceSacco In reply to DamaiMikaz [2018-05-26 20:12:14 +0000 UTC]

Few days ago I searched for some good model to use as reference, and I found the pictures of an hypermobile girl (that could bend her harm too much backward) that was made for 3D practice (blender and such). Yes, those things can't be controlled.
It might help if you use, alongside your hands, pictures that artist share. So you can fix the posture of your hands from the start, or in extreme case you have double references.
My index fingers only bend 30/40°
The other fingers about 50/55°
Pinky fingers 70/80°

DamaiMikaz In reply to AliceSacco [2018-05-26 22:00:25 +0000 UTC]

I think none of the poses make it to the 90 degrees, so guess I'm safe

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AliceSacco In reply to DamaiMikaz [2018-05-27 11:55:36 +0000 UTC]

Just curious. Do you have hypermobility only on fingers or on alla rticulations? Some have hypermobility only on few articulations, or just on thumbs (I had a classmate with hypermobile thumbs, but all the other fingers were normal)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DamaiMikaz In reply to AliceSacco [2018-05-27 12:53:06 +0000 UTC]

I have full on hypermobility syndrome, so every single joint in my body is affected. I need to train and keep a certain muscle mass to support those unstable joints. Otherwise I'd be so prone to dislocations and injury it wouldn't even be funny anymore.
