Clothing practices are my fave, they look awesome. Still life studies are all flat, tho, which is weird since you're not bad at light/shade in general.Β

DamaiMikaz In reply to neonparrot [2015-02-28 11:06:08 +0000 UTC]

They were done in (diffuse) daylight in my room, so the lighting conditions weren't too strong in the first place.

neonparrot In reply to DamaiMikaz [2015-02-28 11:24:51 +0000 UTC]

I understand, but objects don't look flat even at night. Shades would be stronger even with the weakest light. Right one seems more okay, but on the middle one there seems to be no shades on objects at all, only under them.Β

Still... trying to approach realism in that one... and done in a room on a overcast day... I can honestly say the light was no stronger than that.
It was weird to me as well, because we're generally used to stronger lighting when drawing. And most pictures that people take play with light in that manner as well.Β

That's weird D : Gotta try to observe shadows on cloudy days or something then, because as I remember they're always stronger. On the other hand, I've been told many times that we should combine what we see and what we know to approach realism, so maybe it'd look better if you made shadows _a_little_bit_ stronger on the foreground, just to show depth, but use a soft brush or somehting to make it look like lighting is very weak. Idk.Β

DamaiMikaz In reply to neonparrot [2015-02-28 12:39:21 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you completely that it could be artistically more pleasing with a greater depth of colors.Β
But as I usually take reference from pictures (that were tweaked), it's interesting to see how to approach colors in a fairly realistic way... as you see it. It's hard to actually see it, as we're so trained to use certain presets of colors for certain situations.Β

Wanna advice from my experience? It's better to only practice one media than trying to practice all of them (especially at once). You most likely don't have enough time to practice everything so I think focusing in one media is the best for you.Β

Also, about drawing...I honestly wonder what is your plain in deciding how to practice? I would like to give you an advice on that too and tell you to practice one thing at a time, like in week one practicing heads, and week two practicing feet for example and so on. make a list of these things and take one to practice for a week, this way you will find more results and feel less overwhelmed

I enjoyed looking at this dump :] I especially like your digitals. The last two are my fav
keep going!

DamaiMikaz In reply to PastryPuffs [2015-02-28 11:13:00 +0000 UTC]

I think the medium in itself doesn't matter too much when it comes to overall themes like anatomy, composition or color. The medium I use is largely dependent on where I am and what materials I have with me. At home I'm more likely to use digital. While on the road I'm much more likely to resort to pencil (can't take computer/tablet/everything). And with friends I use the material that I have there. It might not be consistent, but it did help me to at least practice every day in a hectic life... which is a goal on itself already.Β

As for practicing one thing... the same goes there. Life is hectic, I'm not always at home, and don't always feel like doing hard practice. Sometimes I'm at home and have good reference material. Other times I just use what I have there, or I do social drawings with friends. The goal for November wasn't so much hard practice. The goal was to just keep drawing, regardless of circumstances.Β

I see....then what about saving a bunch of references in your smartphone and look at them when you are not at home? I guess you are able to take your phone everywhere, right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DamaiMikaz In reply to PastryPuffs [2015-02-28 14:02:43 +0000 UTC]

I have some... but overall I think it's sooo annoying to work from a phone all the time. Let alone that the battery tends to die very fast when you have the screen on all the time... which is largely inconvenient when you have to use your phone for other things as well, and have no option to recharge on the road.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastryPuffs In reply to DamaiMikaz [2015-02-28 16:22:07 +0000 UTC]

The road is a problem....they should make electrical cablesΒ for recharging in the road lamps or somewhere in an age like this. the world need it =.=
