(Continued from Back to Action (Part 1) - The Training RoomKristina Heald let out a long sigh as she stepped out from a woman's locker room, looking herself over. Standing a few feet in front of her, a man motioned, beckoning for her to come to him. His eyes were looking her body over as well.
"Well, lets go!" he said to her, waving his arms towards his body. Letting out another sigh, Kristina walked towards the man, her feet shuffling like a teenager who didn't want to move.
"Come on, are you sure I need to be in full costume for this?" she asked back, her eyes staring into and almost through him. The man was dressed head-to-toe in a very scientist-looking olive-green uniform. Kristina was dressed in a two-piece blue, silver and black costume, with black boots and arm sleeves, which went up just past her elbow. In stepping from the locker room, she had gone from being a normal, every day civilian, to the heroine known as Azure, the leader of Epsilon Force.

The midday sky over the city of Sacramento was picture-perfect – a ‘chamber of commerce’ type of day, for those who mulled about their daily lives, taking care of errands and their business. Just north of the downtown core, however, a battle was raging: the villainess known as Jezebel was putting a pounding on a young woman named Angela Inoue, better known to the world as the superheroine Sapphire. On the other end of the expansive park, several thousand yards away, was another villain, Sypha; he was unconscious, laid out after a mighty blast of Aerokinesis energies and wind sent him hurtling across the park, and into a forested area of the park.

Things had not gone well two-on-one, and even an even one-on-one battle was not going well. With a right uppercut sinking into the center of her abdomen, Sapphire stumbled back against a tree with a groan, pressing her back into it for support. Her right arm had wrapped over her bruised and beaten midsection, and her body was slightly twisted to protect her body from further punishment. Squinting and blinking to clear her vision, she quickly thrust out her left hand to use a burst of her Aerokinetic powers. Jezebel was charging her, an arm cocked back and ready to strike again.

Before she could let the blast go, a left cross smashed into Sapphire’s jaw, sending the heroine’s world spinning. Her eyes snapped shut, her head snapping back and to the side. Her legs went rubbery, and her arms were struggling to stay up in a defensive position. Slipping easily through her guard, a punishing right hook crashed into her ribs at unabated speed, drawing a muffled CRUNCH as the ribs gave in to Jezebel’s power. As fiery pain ripped over her sides and abdominals, Sapphire could only open her eyes widely and wheeze the air from her lungs, crumpling to her knees. She hunched over, her right arm wrapping over her abdomen again. Her hand gently gripped at the cracked ribs she had just been dealt. Amazingly, her leotard-esque suit was holding up well, the nearly indestructible fabric doing what it could do to protect her from further harm. Bullets and arrows were one thing, but fists and physical punishment was almost outside the scope of what the suit could handle.

“It’s always fun fighting you Epsilon Force ladies,” Jezebel said, squealing as Sapphire slowly lifted her head. Her long blackish-brown hair veiled her face, keeping her from adequately seeing the villainess’ right hand reaching out to grab a handful of that very hair. Jezebel yanked the heroine up slightly, before pulling her forehead down into a kneelift, connecting Sapphire’s head with the top of her knee. White and black stars and shapes exploded in her vision, and slowly her body keeled back over in a sort of pretzel shape, the lower-half of her legs trapped beneath her body. Her arms were limply splayed out at her sides.

A low moan filled the air. Sapphire was toast, completely defeated. Her torso throbbed, her head was spinning from a probable concussion, and her vision was tripled, filled with blinking stars and shapes. Quietly Jezebel knelt down next to the left side of Sapphire’s body. Her hands were clasping together, forming a sort of hammer. Quickly she brought her clasped hands back, before abruptly slamming them down onto Sapphire’s vulnerable abdomen, drawing a louder moan. Sapphire began to squirm, trying to get her legs out from underneath her. The throbbing pains wracking her midsection grew worse as a second hammer blow smashed into her bruised abdominals, causing Sapphire to moan again. Tears were beginning to well up in her eyes as the devious villainess picked her apart with ease. She slowly twisted her body onto her right side, finally pulling her legs free of being beneath her. That was as far as she could get, however, as Jezebel pulled her back over onto her back, hammering a third blow into the beautiful heroine’s injured midsection. With a whimper, Sapphire sputtered, slowly curling up in the fetal position. It was a last-ditch attempt to protect the injured areas of her body from more damage.

In the sky behind Jezebel and Sapphire, Azure hurtled into the park, slowly bringing her flight to a hover. She quickly floated down to the ground, landing behind the villainess as the woman’s hands reached to pull Sapphire back onto her back once again.

“I think you’ve had enough fun for one day, Jezebel!” Azure yelled, her hands reaching out to send a burst of Electrokinetic energy into Jezebel’s upper-back. The villainess let out a shrill scream as she found herself tumbling over Sapphire’s body, coming to a stop on her left side. A few wafts of steam and smoke rose into the air from where the energy had lanced into Jezebel’s body. Weakly the villainess tried to push herself up to her knees, but another burst of energy pushed her back into the ground, knocking her out. Standing over Jezebel’s fallen form, Azure carefully nudged the woman to make sure she wasn’t going to pop up again. The sounds of Sapphire coughing quickly caught her attention.

Pulling a quick about-face, she almost leapt the few feet to her partner’s side. Sapphire was struggling to push herself up with her right hand, while the palm of her left hand gingerly pressed to her broken ribs. A bit of blood was streaming from the left corner of her mouth, revealing just how much punishment her waistline had taken. Azure knelt down, her arms gently cradling the Asian heroine’s upper-body to help sit her up.

“I’d have… had her if you didn’t show up,” she said, letting out a cough and a wince.

“Sure you would have,” Azure replied, grinning. “Come on, let’s get you home and checked out.” Her right arm scooped under Sapphire’s legs, hoisting her up off the grass. With her eyes glowing a blue hue, she floated into the air, leaving Jezebel’s knocked out body behind – she could be dealt with again later. Making sure her teammate and best friend was okay was the only thing that mattered. As they lifted into the skies and flew towards San Francisco, Sapphire gently closed her eyes, nodding off in an attempt to stop the throbbing pain in her torso. Azure’s eyes glanced over at Sapphire’s face as their altitude increased, feeling the heroine growing slightly heavier in her arms. She gently smiled.

“Sleep well, Sapphire… we’ll be home soon,” she said quietly, her voice trailing off as they flew over the hills and towards the Bay Area...

Re-wrote this part a few days ago at work, of all places - we had a big bunch of down time in our call center, and with nothing else to do, I cranked this out and edited it... and then finally edited the picture to be more 'comic-styled' in Photoshop with the Toon It! filter I found online. Worked out well, I think!
