A younger Toriel from Consuming Darkness . I played around a little with the rendering. I usually do cell shading, with a little bit of watercolor here and there, but this time I thought it'd be fun to experiment I hope you like it!

Afterwards.

That mark had not been there before.
It was a little thing, and at first Toriel did not notice a difference in her reflection. But upon wiping her tears, and moving closer to the mirror, a little crack revealed itself. It was aqua, the very same color of her pupils. But the aqua had traveled through her deep blue iris in a line, a crack of thunder in the midst of deep sea.
It had not been there before. Surely it had not. Toriel had checked her appearance just yesterday, before this all happened. Before she lost him. The moment when she realized that she could not be with him came to mind every time she looked at that crack, as if it were connected to the grief of that memory. And perhaps it was. Indeed, it must have been. For what else but the painful sorrow could have broken her beautiful eye?
Toriel took comfort in that her vision was not impaired by this, nor was it too noticeable if one did not look too closely. But the scar was at the time, and so remained, a painful reminder of who she had lost.
