Description
I think Arkady likes red string. Maybe she's gonna knit a sweater! .... without knitting needles.I don't know why Umber's looking at her so suspiciously. My hand slipped while inking, maybe. Inkwash and dip pens (with a touch of marker) are a lot of fun, and I think I'll use them more often in the future. Cheaper than markers, too. And actually available in PEI.
(And I shall acknowledge comparisons to Ross Campbell right here, so needn't bring that up. Although I think I'm at least 96% less whiney than he is. Okay, 95%.)

she just looked like emily to me and i was like woah, but then i noticed her hair was diferent and didn't ecpect you to say anything about ross. i know how you feel though about people associating a style of art with an artist, people compare me to david mack a lot. it can be very flattering but at times i feel like i need to put more of my own specific style in my art, it is so hard to develop. which is something else that you have done a nice job of, everytime i see one of your pieces i recognize it as your work.

Whoah, a really harsh image (In a good way) The expressions show grief, the color (and grays) have high contrasts, a very cool image, but it sure leaves you with a strange feeling inside...

In Japan, there is a legend about the red string. Supposedly, there is a red string tied to the pinkies of two people who are destined to be soul mates, or something along the lines. It connects them. Saw it in the description of some piece of art..... Yeah. Anyways, neat image. Great lighting.

Have you tried coloring with tea or coffee? This drawing reminded me so much of that type of media, except yours looks much more like marker work. < 3
I have no idea who Ross Campbell is, so you're all good with me. Completely original in my book.

Coffee might be cool. I saw some Brother Bear concept art drawn with coffee. Do you just use regular coffee grounds and add water?

That's what I've heard. I imagine it's rather easy to do (and what a cheap medium!). It creates a really rich brown, and depending on how strong the coffee is, you get different shades. It's great. XD The same goes with tea!

i remember in Strings Of Fate, the red string was used to bind people together. Just a little nugget of memory there

Uh, okay, so that comic has the copyright on red string? Far as I know, it's been around almost as long as the wheel.
There is a particular point in my Trilogy story (which these two characters are from) where I make some sort of 'bleeding string' metaphor for power. That's where this particular image comes from, and it's been on my webpage for um ... about two years before that comic existed.
Faith no like that comic. Over written, over praised, non updated crap. Pretty art, tho.

I like the roughness of the line. Also, the window element in the background fits well in the composition; takes a while before you notice the source of light.

Good eye. It's kind of hidden, tho, so I didn't think it merited a 'mature' rating.

outstanding work with the inkwash, you really mastered the tones excelently! Sweet.
And I dont' think Umber looks too suspicious... maybe currious. Stiil it's way cool.

Meh, I don't think Ross Cambell every time I see inkwash. It was around waaayyy before him, and will continue long after, I'm sure.
Lovely picture, though. Arkady's expression is so contemplative. Like she's thinking very, *very* hard about that string. The lighting is excellent, too.

Well, since you mentioned Ross I can see the influences. Of course knowing where your ideas come from is a good thing. I recently read a book called "Hackers and Painters." The author made out quite well founding an early internet startup, but since he studied painting in school he draws many parallels between painting and programming to illustrate his points. In one chapter he talks about originality and that most people who really try to be original often just don't realize who they're imitating. He concludes that people are best when they are confident enough to knowingly draw upon the things that are good in other people's work rather than simply try to be original.
So yeah, I the inkwash is nice; it has a texture to it that I really like. I look forward to seeing more of them.
