Description
In anticipation of the release of the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy (Mockingjay, out tomorrow), I drew a 5 page fancomic for the series, adapting the first couple pages of the original Hunger Games novel. This is page 1 of 5. You can read the rest of it online here: [link]Comments either here or on my LJ (there's a link to it on the last page of the comic) would be greatly appreciated!

First off let me say very nice job on this, I was bummed when there was no more pages. The style reminds me a lot of Jim Mahfood's GrrlScouts, don't know if your familiar or anyone else has brought it up but you should check it out if you haven't and see the interesting similarities. Next, as I was finishing the trilogy I was thinking that there were so many more stories here to tell and that a comic book or graphic novel series would be a very interesting way to approach it. I was considering trying to get in touch with Suzanne Collins to see what her thoughts on this would be. After seeing this adaption and as well as Samurai-PET 's it only sort of reasserts the idea for me. Love to hear some of your thoughts on this. Keep up the great work.

Wow, I looked through the fancomic... it was really amazing. I love your black and white style... few people can be so expressive with black and white

You should draw the rest of the novel. These 5 pages are absolutely beautiful. I love the perspectives.

I seriosuly could get you a publisher! Then when the publisers done we could contact Collins agent and see if Collins wants the Graphic novel! If not you could finish, make it a print and get a lot of money! You have amazing talent and it would be a shame to see it not be famous.

It would be illegal for me to finish the comic and sell it as a print, as I do not have permission from the author and publisher of The Hunger Games.

Nope! Not unless the comic was in an official capacity and I was paid to draw it. From what I've heard, there will be a Hunger Games comic to coincide with the movie, and I'm not drawing it (that I've heard of).

Hm. I think you're the best artist on DA. I think that your Hunger Games Graphic Novel Sample was astounding. If I get Suzzane Collins to give permission for you to finish your comic, and you'd get it to be sold worldwide, and you'd, obviously, get paid. Would you do it?

haha, okay, really, I've no idea how to respond to this anymore. Would I liked to be hired to draw a Hunger Games graphic novel adaptation in an official capacity? Sure, why not! But, and I hate to come across rudely here, as it's really not meant to be, who are you that you can achieve this? I know this is a very popular series of books, and I feel that if I was going to be hired to draw this book, then it would be someone from Scholastic approaching my agent. Who, by the way, passed on the Hunger Games pages I did on to Scholastic anyway, and heard nothing back. So Scholastic is obviously not interested in me drawing the book!
So who are you that you keep asking me this? A relative of Suzanne Collins? At this point I've no idea where you're coming from. This whole thing is just weird and I feel like you're pulling my leg. So, y'know, if you can get me an official offer from Scholastic, hey, go for it. But otherwise, let's stop having these conversations. It's getting weird.

Sorry! I feel all stalkerish! But your right, if I were you I'd be annoyed by me, right from the second comment. I agree that this has been weird, I have been a bit to forward on the idea. I work for a company. A very small, unknown company. We're a publishing, writing, and drawing company. Ben Caldwell is the president of our company, he's a god to us. I am the newest recruit, the newbies always have to find artist, writers and publishers for the company. I learned about DA a few months ago, I thought it'd be a good way to look for artist to hire and boy was I right! A high percentage of our companies artist are from DA. While searching for new artist I came across you. Originally I was sent to find portraitists, because we're low on them. But, when I showed you to my boss he loved your work. Since I, foolishly, disguised myself as a teenager, I wasn't able to be taken seriously. I began to obsess over your work. So, when I found the time to ask more about your graphic novels, I saw you posted a Hunger Games Sample. Since, i was always a big Hunger Games fan, I thought I'd take a look. I was so very impressed by the sample pages, I thought I'd ask more about them, see what you knew. You gave me an even better impression with what you knew about copyright policy etc. You were perfect for the job. When I returned to my boss about your sample, he two, was so very impressed. When you agreed to let me pass the pages on, I passed them to our president, Ben Caldwell. He was just as proud and impressed than the rest of us, and wanted to offer you the job. Since I was still a recruit, I didn't get to offer you the job, a fellow artist, very pushy, got to do it. Our whole company leaned in to see your response and was a tad bit disappointed. We send our projects to scholastic and other bigger companies for confirmation. If you agree to finish the Graphic Novel, we'd go straight to paying for rights. We offer you once more, how would you like to be the artist for the first ever Hunger Games Graphic Novel?

If you are legitimately interested in me drawing a HG graphic novel in an official capacity, you can contact my literary agent Bernadette Baker-Baughman at bbaker@victoriasanders.com with the details. She deals with my various projects.

Thanks for getting me hooked on Hunger Games! I enjoyed them thoroughly, but hadn't heard of them until I saw your artwork. And now a comic? Bonus! You do spoil us.
I really love the framing on this page.
Also - Awwwwwwww, Buttercup! Stupid ugly cat choked me up in "Mockingjay."

Those were wonderful! Tells the story of the first few pages very well. All without use of a single word. I like that best.
Oh Buttercup. You poor fugly cat. xD
That last image of the Seam and the 12 shadow was grand. I've been churning out short Mockingjay comics. One can't not. Augh. Those books were good! Several sketch pages have been overtaken by various Haymitches alone, which doesn't shock me. I have a particular fondness for that character.
Keep at it!
