Description MR. XTREME versus THE FOWL! YOU DON'T DARE MISS IT!

...so Mr. Xtreme is an honest-to-gosh, real-life superhero type person who operates out of the greater San Diego area. Neighborhood watch, community awareness, that sort of thing. He heads up the "Xtreme Justice League", a group of other real-life superheroes (quote, unquote) dedicated to saving the world, one patrol at a time.

Can't say much for the effectiveness of these guys, but their hearts are in the right place. Though really, I think they'd be better off without the masks and costumes. I mean, you've read my comics -- my idea of a superhero is a snickering psychopath. For someone to make superheroing an effective crime-fighting tool, they'd kind of have to be criminally crazy, wouldn't they? Midnight marauding is for killers and lunatics, in my book. Justice should be enforced through honesty, not self-indulgent mystery.

Now, mysterious mystery has a shot. That is to say, mystery we don't know about. That could work. Maybe it already is.

EDIT: I'm totally kidding about there being a crossover or something. I just wanted to draw the dude talking to the Fowl.

The Fowl looks creepy, sexy and oddly hulking in this image.

Do tell? Sweet. I kind of had to make him all crouchy and stoopy so's he wouldn't just tower over Mr. Xtreme.

NuclearConvoy In reply to dan-sch [2009-09-06 22:46:40 +0000 UTC]

Ah, makes a lot of sense. How tall is the Fowl, officially?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dan-sch In reply to NuclearConvoy [2009-09-06 23:11:48 +0000 UTC]

I have him at 6'3" (190.5 cm), but his Fowl boots add an couple of inches, so in costume he's probably around 6'5". He's always stooping and leaning, though.

G4 had a segment on two of those "real-life" superheroes and it was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. These guys could do the same exact thing without the costumes, there's no need for the anonymity cause they don't do anything dangerous.
And I completely agree with your view of superheroes, they'd have to be murderers to stop the kind of things that matter, like drug dealers.

Cool drawing by the way .

Thanks. Now obviously, that there's more than one way to skin a cat -- murder is not the only option. But it does seem like it'd be a necessary evil.

It's easy to rag on these guys, but their hearts are in the right place. You gotta at least give 'em that

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

dan-sch In reply to ZackNoone [2009-09-06 22:30:58 +0000 UTC]

I do at that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

xReaper19x In reply to ZackNoone [2009-09-06 12:14:19 +0000 UTC]

It's true that their hearts are in the right places, but there is absolutely no reason for them to be wearing masks cause what they do is just about the same as working in a soup kitchen.
Groups such as the Guardian Angels do much more to combat crime, why not join them?
I think they just cosplayers gone crazy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZackNoone In reply to xReaper19x [2009-09-06 13:15:17 +0000 UTC]

You're entitled to your opinion, and yes the Guardian Angels do alot. But aren't they just the same as The Punisher when it all boils down to it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xReaper19x In reply to ZackNoone [2009-09-06 14:04:50 +0000 UTC]

I've been kinda harsh on the people . Obviously they do good and I can't really complain about it. I'm kind of split on the subject. While they do good, I'm not in support of the unreasonable method in which they do what they do. One guy has a costume that cost around $4,000, that money could have done a lot of good, but it's used on a disguise for what? To help hide his identity from the homeless people that he gives food to? Or the kids he helps teach?
And the Guardian Angels work within the boundaries of the law, though the early Black Panthers were remarkably like the Punisher, carrying guns on street corners and such.

literacysuks1 [2009-09-06 05:39:58 +0000 UTC]

I can't stand those guys. It's nice that they want to help but the costume and codenames only muddle and makes their efforts more difficult...because they look ridiculous. Plus people end up assuming all comic readers are like that.

It doesn't help that they always have terrible superhero names that sound like IM handles.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

dan-sch In reply to literacysuks1 [2009-09-06 22:26:02 +0000 UTC]

Aye. Kind of tough to take ol' "Nightblood" seriously, ain't it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

ZackNoone In reply to literacysuks1 [2009-09-06 11:28:18 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha true, most of the RLSH are in it for what they think will be glory and respect.. in other words they're deluded. But there a few out there who actually do make a difference like Brisbane's 2 or 3 "superheroes"

They've been caught on CCTV but they don't go on morning talk shows and stuff. They're vigilantes and make no claims of being anything more.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dan-sch In reply to ZackNoone [2009-09-06 22:38:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, in the interests of fairness, almost none of these guys actually commit violent acts. They see themselves as a crime deterrent rather than KKK-style vigilantes. Their hope is that their presence will encourage the criminal in question to cease his villainy and flee, or just not commit the act in the first place, for fear of being witnessed as much as anything else. In the rare occasion that an altercation does in fact break out, they're likely to use pepper spray (or other self-defense tools citizens are legally allowed to use) and then call the police after the danger has passed. These guys may not have thought their crusade through all the way, but they aren't stupid.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

literacysuks1 In reply to dan-sch [2009-09-07 07:47:26 +0000 UTC]

I think the only thing they'd do is make possible criminals want to beat the shit out of the guy who's working at the soup kitchen in an S & M outfit that says "the dark bunny" on it. The only person who would REALLY put the fear of god into the superstitious and cowardly is the goddamn batman, and he ain't real.

but yeah, if they want to stop crime they can be a cop, if they want to do some minor public service they can just do it. I don't get it.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the silliness. Just wanted to set the record straight with the whole "vigilante" thing.

ZackNoone In reply to dan-sch [2009-09-06 23:23:58 +0000 UTC]

Nice. Have you seen the trailer for The Defendor yet?

You should check it out. It alligns right with your theory of 'real life' super heroes.

Loving this drawing by the way. You always find such great gestures for good 'old Steve.

more please...

Just checked it out, at your suggestion. That has to be both the saddest and most darkly intriguing thing I've seen in a while. Forest Gump meets the Dark Knight, eh? I'm game.

Great idea. "Real life superheroes" are still an untapped resource. I can see a lot of potential with this group. Then again, if they are in a story with the Fowl, they just might prove to be more of a nuisance than an asset. You know, the whole gettin' in the way thing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dan-sch In reply to Papa-Pills [2009-09-06 03:29:35 +0000 UTC]
