Description The guy on the left you know. The other two, you don't. But you will...

Time to show my hand a little. What you're seeing is some test art for a new sequential, OUR BOY -- a story of murderers, true love, the end of the world, and other such things. This is the comic I've wanted to do since I first read Garth Ennis' PREACHER, and thanks be to storyteller emeritus , we just might be able to pull it off. Plus, the Fowl and his crew are in it. Every sitcom needs a Kramer.

Apologies to Glenn Fabry ( [link] ). And Philip Kaufman, if you like.

This looks cool. You always manage to convey so much attitude and personality. This single sketchy image has me intrigued. Plus, the thought of DeMoge working as a team player is a plot in itself.

I was thinking the Law and Order credits too! I think it's the girl with the badge around her neck on the end that makes the connection. So Team Fowl eh? Look forward to finding out more!

You betcha. From what we've done so far, it's shaping up to be the best project I've ever worked on.

Iiintersting. What's the division of creative duties going to be like?

dan-sch In reply to genekelly [2009-08-09 17:44:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'll be drawing and scripting the thing, with Jonnie and I co-plotting and coloring. He came up with the initial concept for the series and with the story up to a point -- the two on the right are his creations, for instance -- and then we collaborated on the story from there. For instance, the action now takes place in Parris City, where before it was New York. Anyhow, even though it bears the Schkade stank pretty strongly, it's a team effort at heart.

I'm working through the pencils right now -- hope to have the first segment up by Halloween. But we'll see. My suckitude at scheduling is getting a little notorious.

When you're scheduling is as bad as mine, then you can start to worry.

I'm intrigued by the Fowl's grin here and the fact that he's examining his two cohorts. Makes me think of two different thoughts going through the Avian Avenger's skull:

A. He feels he's in good company and it's gonna be a hot time in the old town tonight.

B. The fools have no clue what they're in for and he's stoked at the thought of shattering whatever boundaries they've erected in their personal wars on crime.

Some combination of the both, methinks...

What Dan said. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of "Gone to Texas" as soon as you can. You'll either love it or hate it. My bet is you'll read it in one sitting and want the next one right away.

Inveighed In reply to Jamibug [2009-08-11 09:56:52 +0000 UTC]

Ok ok! You two have successfully peer-pressured me into looking for a copy. Maybe I can persuade the library to buy it? Heh.

I have to say, I'll probably end up being one of the people to hate it.

Sixty-six issues -- one story, one artist, one writer. Vulgar as all hell, but easily one of the best things ever put to comics. It could be laugh-out-loud funny at times, disturbing at others, and sometimes, so sweet it damn near made me shed a manly tear. Dan recommended.

Inveighed In reply to dan-sch [2009-08-11 09:55:15 +0000 UTC]

Not so fond of vulgar stuff, but I'll certainly read it at least once if I ever get the chance.

...There is no such thing as a manly tear.

literacysuks1 [2009-08-07 04:40:27 +0000 UTC]

Man. I still gotta read Preacher, but I'm in the middle of trying to read my way through like 50 other series that I apparently have to get through so that the nerd community doesn't look down on me. Most end up being worth it, though...pretty much everything vertigo has published ever is gold.

...Right. The drawing. Cool. Your pencils are always sweet to look at since so much of what I associate with your work is in the ink lines and the harsh contrasts. Fowl looks dangerously mentally balanced, too. He'll start calling people ninja pricks and tackling them off buildings once that mask is on, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dan-sch In reply to literacysuks1 [2009-08-07 09:39:30 +0000 UTC]

Preacher's a beast, but it's a pretty easy read when compared to, say, V for Vendetta or Sandman. Anyway, I loved it more than I have nearly any other comic. Lurid as all hell, but if you've got a strong stomach, I'd move it on up your to-read list.

And don't sweat -- you won't be seeing a sane Avian Avenger anytime soon. He's just stoned out on his meds right here.

Nice sketch there. Haven't seen much of you recently, glad to see you're still alive! For a while I'd been wondering if you'd gotten fed up with fighting crime by pen and cold, black ink, and decided to go hand out some two-fisted justice yourself.

dan-sch In reply to Qt75Rx1 [2009-08-07 09:40:33 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou. I was indeed fighting crime. And by crime I mean a cold. And by fighting I mean sleeping and watching a lot of Entourage.

dalf-rules [2009-08-07 04:32:07 +0000 UTC]

It looks very nice. Even if it's just a preliminary sketch it has a lot of vitality on it (It always seems odd to me when comic book artists let go of expression and movement for the sake of detail and realism).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dan-sch In reply to dalf-rules [2009-08-07 04:35:08 +0000 UTC]

Feh. The closer you get to realism, the further you get from creating your own fictional "reality" that people can lose themselves in. So, thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dalf-rules In reply to dan-sch [2009-08-07 04:59:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I mean, there are artists that can pull it off, but you can tell that a lot of newcomers get lost on the details and forget the subtleties.
Or trace pictures. I hate when they do that >_<
(Except from the guy that draws Ex Machina but he takes his own pics and knows how to reference them well)
