Description
This is a conversion of a Revell 1/35th scale US Army M1A2 Abram Main Battle Tank to Imperial Guard.I'm not entirely sure what sort of tank it would be RULES-wise - maybe a Baneblade variant?
Anyway - the Work In Progress thread can be seen here: [link]
Along with additional photos.
And the voting section on CoolMini, here:

It was fun to build, although VERY fiddly at times - especially the tracks!
I wanted to make it as "realistic" as possible, with the amount of weathering and mud effects.
The mud was a simple mixture of brown and black paint, PVA glue, a clump or two of static grass and some sand. This was then mixed into a delicious paste
This tank also had a fair bit of greenstuff scratchbuilding too - mainly the tank commander's arms.
There is also a scratchbuilt Bergen backpack on the turret, and a larger canvas roll than is included with the GW sprue. I also added a cup of tea and a book to add a little character and humour to the piece
The decals came with the kit itself.

I think that this tank would use similar rules as the Leman Russ Vanquisher, mostly due to the use of sabot shells (tank killing rods). while the armor would be slightly better due to the tank having a lower profile which would allow it to hide more easily.

Cheers for that
Tbh I have no idea about the rules anymore as I only played a few games of 2nd and 3rd edition YEEAARRSS ago
I really just prefer the modelling/painting side
Please feel free to figure out the rules though if you want

Most impressive! Thumbs up for idea, execution, superb detail, dirt and weathering!
Great conversion.
Though, continuing the discussion above, whatever our personal attitude toward Nazis, their vehicles and design are most appropriate for the Imperium. Ideologically, the Imperium of Man is consciously modeled by GW to resemble a 20th century clero-fascist state, both ideologically and esthetically, with the addition of cyber-punk and gothic. With that in mind it is most appropriate to leach on the tradition and creations of great fascist states from our history like the III Reich or the Soviet Union under Stalin when trying to expand this universe without substantially changing direction.
Now, even though IG vehicles have mostly been based on British WWI-WWII models, you can see the prevailing design patterns in vehicles that appeared during WWII predominantly in German and Soviet vehicles. In this respect, my AB40 as a chimera is pretty much a failure, but I liked the model, even though it does not meet the design patterns because it had wheels, and I so wanted to make an armoured wheel transport for my guard and because it is similar in size to the Chimera while looking smaller and somehow more appropriate for a command vehicle.
By the way, I am making another one. A black one for Commissar's crew.

Agree with the way GW models the Imperium on a kind of neo-fascism.
However - it also states that there are myriad worlds colonised by humans that are not so strictly governed by imperial mandate - for whatever reason, and their vehicles, uniforms etc may not be modelled against Standard Template Construction. Either that, or you could say that your AB40 was a vehicle used by PDF forces that proved so successful that it was incorporated into the IG armoury.
Tbh - the richness of the WH40K universe is that nothing is REALLY "Set in stone"... Roboute Guilliman MIGHT be healing in stasis... Corax and Russ MIGHT reappear from the warp... Etc
Thanks for the comment though

Quite agree! Just the right amount of open-endednes to get the imagination going!
And truly, according to fluff, some planets may still be defended by knights riding horses into battle, so anything goes. I was just referring to the main-stream stereotypes involved.

Very good
Like it! I do my tanks for 40K myselfe too (I use 1:35 german "Panzer III"), so I got some very valuable inspirations from your tank - particularly the mud is awesome - I will try your "recipe" for mine

Cool - let me know if and when you finish it and I'll take a look
I'd recommend using an old toothbrush for spattering the mud

Toothbrush?! Oki, will try it - but not this year, I think... I got to paint 120 Soldiers... so the tanks will have to wait. But I'm gathering ideas and inspirations during this time.

Yeah - the bristles on a toothbrush are a bit stiffer and have a better "flick" than a paintbrush.
120?? Tell me about it - I have ... I don't even wanna think about it
That's why I generally do characters rather than units!
But now my nephew's wanting to start a Chaos army and wants me to help him with it :/ lol

Ah, OK, I'll try the "flick" ^^
jep, 120 (so approximately)... 80 Troopers... 3 Officers... 20 Stormtroopers... one Techpriest with 5 Servitors... 12 Heavy Weapon Teams... 10 Ratling Snipers... and a few fun-minies, like Newt from "Aliens 2"... and they all cry for color... they are calling ME OHMYGOD ! ! ! I CAN HEAR 'EM SCREAMING! ! !

I don't really play any more - I just paint for the fun of it

Then again, I know someone who's making WH40k-scale LAV-3s for use as Chimeras. His Canadian
IG army even has desert cadpad (let's just say that he's extensively familiar with modern military equipment)
I tried doing the same with a 1:35 scale Merkava Israeli MBT (can't recall the company that produced the kit), but right now that might end up in the trash soon.
