People who like Poison never know a damn shit about that character. Poison's so-called "fans" like him only because what he is and not because what he does. And that is one of the most retarded reasons to like any fictional character.
In other words, Poison's "fans" are just some stupid SJW's who don't know a damn shit about this character.
While the people who hate this character, are those people who have actually played all street fighter and Final Fight games, and they know how horrible character Poison really is.
Poison is a joke character, pervert and damn sexist character who is stereotyping female characters. And he is a member of an evil organization named Mad gear. And he is damn bad at fighting, he is so bad at fighting that he needed to team up with Hugo, so Hugo can beat up the good guys with him.
If Poison would be a real character, everybody would hate him just because what he does, not because what he is. And also because Poison has never done anything badass in her lifetime.
Do you know why many Street fighter fans like Ryu more than Ken? Eventually, Ryu and Ken are both very similar characters? The answer is because Ryu has done more badass thinks than Ken has done. Ryu is the badass homeless guy who beats up the bad guys in Street fighter games.

To be fair Poison ddin't really do anything 'bad' in Final Fight aside from fight against the protag(and thus you the player) she didn't kidnap the mayor's daughter, she's just a lowly member of the gang. Err WAS as if you read her bio you'd realize after the game she drops out of the gang and becomes Hugo's manager for his wrestling career. Also lol @ Ryu doing 'badass' things. Unless there's some canon story of him taking down Bison's army or something he's just as 'badass' as you claim Poison isn't. Ryu's more popular than Ken as he's essentially the face of Street Fighter so he's more well known. Also Poison isn't a sexist character, I wager she's bi. As for her dressing like she does? Poison is a sexist character because her character design is very discreditable against woman.

This is bullshit and you know it. Akuma is a Japanese word and it stands for Demon, Evil spirit or Satan, so you are actually saying that being a Hugos manager makes Poison as badass as Ryu who beat up Satan? Also, Yes Ryu has defeated M.Bison too, and also Sagat who created the entire world warrior tournament in street fighter storyline. Also, Ryu has won the entire world warrior tournament few times in Street fighter. So yes I think he is far more badass than Poison is.

Also, I found this from Wikia. The Final Fight-related character profiles featured in the 2005 compilation Capcom Classics Collection acknowledges Poison's transgender characterization, although it confuses transgender people with transvestites, addressing Roxy as a cisgender female who dislikes Poison's crossdressing.
Poison is probably just a crossdresser, which means that she/he is just a perverted guy who dresses up like a woman.

Because Poison is a joke character, Capcom always keeps making tons of trans jokes about him. And Poison has never been a treated as a serious character.

As though you have the right at all to shame people for how they feel comfortable dressing... Btw, nobody sees the fallacy you're pulling; some men are gross perverts, but only a very small group of very crazy people think all of them are, and the same applies to women, because that is a human trait that can be had via our sentience.
Also, if one spends years and years, and thousands and thousands of dollars on hormones and surgeries they are certainly not pretending to be the sex they portray themselves as. If they did not genuinely have a disconnect between their mind and their body that process would do irreversible damage to their brain function. I would argue that Poison is yes, a bad person, but from what I know of her I don't think she's mentally screwed from taking hormones.
I suggest you read proper scientific, peer-reviewed, unbiased studies about this stuff, it's really interesting if you can be open minded enough not to reject the information being given. I would also suggest, as hypocritical as this may be looking at this post, that you don't needlessly throw a conversation down the rabbithole of opinions not related to art, or at least not attack people like you did here.

Maki Genryusai (From Final Fight 2) is much more badass than Poison is, and Maki is a hot-blooded tomboy character. And she saved her family from Mad Gear (Poison is a part of Mad gear).
