So I've been messing around with a more ... animated style.I saw this absolutelyfrigginfantastic animation a few days ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PKNuZ…
And I cannot explain how much I feel in love with it. Vivienne Medrano has a style so unique to me, and when I saw that animation it reminded me of the good ole times about everything I ever first loved about animation/cartoons. The days of traditional animation, and the frame by frame technique. The characters felt "alive" in a way you just don't see much anymore. I mean I still love the Flash animation etc, but I've become so used to it. I admit that I think I just...zone out nostalgic western animation styles I originally fell in love with as a kid...
I want to mess around with this style a bit more...specifically with the Mane 6.
I really feel I should explore some more before I jump into my comic. To REALLY find myself with regard to a style.
Idk...What do you guys think?

That animation was indeed a thrill to watch!
Some comics I've seen at a mid-way point have suddenly changed styles. While it doesn't bother me too much, if I were the artist I would try to keep it consistent, at least until I started a new comic.
If you're feeling iffy on your personal style, then go explore and experiment! Find one style that you know you will enjoy using to draw a comic series and whatever else you want.
As much as we enjoy your content, it is YOUR content and yours alone. You choose what you like. We will still enjoy it! =]

I know right!? I don't even care much for kesha, but it's stuck in my head...and only because I see Vivienne's JayJay singing it in that animation xD
But yea, I want to experiment with this style. It's something that feels...fresh to me. People have asked me why I don't ever draw the mane6 like...at all. Because to me, I feel like drawing them show accurate has been done to death >_>
No offense to those who do, but for me, I've been looking for something...different. So that's what i'm going to do and see how it goes >_>

This is excellent. If you really get this style down good, and put it to the comic, I think that would totally rock. There's just so much expression to this style. I also like how the hair is, kinda fading blacker as it goes back.

While I love the use of the exaggerated expression by allowing the face to be more elastic, it also makes it a slower sketch process. Who knows, maybe with some extra time I can nail it down, and use it for the comic?

That video did have some good animation, though I think that blue fox-lady would be a very annoying clubber if she's always getting into everyone else's face like that. Esspecially if she's really into Ke$ha.
This style is actually really cool. I really like how there's a sort of movement with this style that your previous style doesn't quite capture the same way. They're great stills, but with this, I feel like she JUST now saw something amusing, and is leaning herself back and curling her mouth into a smile.

Haha, JayJay is the name of the Werewolf...and I only know that because I totally didn't binge Vivienne's gallery once I found her >_> Yea I'm not a fan of Kesha myself, but now that song is stuck in my head because I now associate it with the animation instead xD
But yea, I want to see what else I can do following this style's "flow" as I guess you could call it? If I can continue to attain that feeling of exaggerated dynamic expression, then I might start mainlining it as my "personally-translated" style I suppose? I'm still conflicted on if I should continue the other style for the comic for: A- consistency and B- because its not overly detailed meaning that I can accomplish the completion of strips within a reasonable amount of time xD

A lot of the comic and manga artists slowly shift drawing styles. Sometimes I spot it right away, but some do it so seamlessly I have to go back and make sure I remember the previous pages right. If you're subtle enough, no one will notice until it's too late. How much of the comic do you already have done?

I have what I guess you could say would be 90% of the comic planned, but nothing physical started. I have an entire outline that's missing only really the end game. I have a start, a setting, a course of events to run the main characters through, an entire backstory for the main villian, and how canon and the OCs will fit into it etc. So it's all there.
But that's why I figured if I'm evolving a style...maybe waiting until it becomes my standard before I start anything to avoid a "whoa...this comic looks very different, did they hire a new artist?" event. So I'll probably play it by ear :-/

Whatever you think is best man, I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't draw. I don't think you should start it until you think it's right.
