Todd's sudden bravado seemed to be enhanced by his ADD's need to do something with his hands during class. Or was it something else, almost a whisper in his ear, telling him Mary's hair needed to be freed from the tight braid she had woven. His fingers ran across the soft plait. Almost acting of their own accord, they removed the hair band and began separating the locks of hair from each other.

He didn't know what had come over him. He was sure to be in trouble. But he had already started the deed, might as well keep going, he thought. The voice in the back of his mind grew stronger, almost as if some force needed this to happen. But it was not enough. Something caught the corner of his eye...
