Description
"...Hair." Ms. Featherstone spoke aloud the answer that ran through all three girls' minds. "Not only is it an excellent vessel in which to store magic, because of its regenerative ability, it also adds versatility to one's magical power."
The girls' quizzical looks made Ms. Featherstone smirk.
"So much to learn, but the short version is that most objects acting as magical vessels are better suited to some kinds of magic than others because of their shape. A magical sword is useful for offensive magic, because that is the nature of the sword itself. A shield for defensive magic, a necklace for delicate spells, and so forth.Β
"But hair can take many shapes. Long, loose hair increases the potency of a powerful burst. An intricate braid will aid in casting a complicated incantation. Using it to cover oneself will help in hiding or teleportation, as you've all just experienced." she gestured to the walls of the chamber to which they recently were transported.
As if to press home the point further, she moved her fingers in a delicate motion, and the girls watched in awe as Ms. Featherstone's impossibly long sheet of hair lifted off of the ground in undulating waves. She gathered a front section of her soft black tresses and affixed it back with the compact clip. Continuing to move her hands around the mass of locks, she concentrated as the hair seemed to shrink in on itself. At the same time, it wove itself into an enormously thick braid that settled at last to a position behind her calves.
Dawn gasped. "Th-that was amazing!"
"Thank you." Ms. Featherstone smiled. "And, it sure doesn't hurt with upkeep, either. You may have noticed that in the years you've attended this school, your hair has been fuller, thicker, shinier, and easier to manage? Just one of the bonuses in having magically-infused locks, if I say so myself. And I've yet to see a single gray strand!" She gave her braid a quick kiss.
"I think you're right," realized Megan. "I used to have to spend an hour brushing out tangles. Now it only takes a minute to smooth down after I wake up." She examined her long blonde mane.
"I've noticed the thickness, too," chimed in Dawn from under her giant mound of black hair.Β
"Well, a normal person loses about 100 hairs a day from regular wear-and-tear," the principal explained. "We don't. Every single one of your magical follicles is full and strong."
"That explains why I haven't had to unclog my shower in forever!" Megan beamed. "My dad threatened to take the lawn clippers to me a couple of years ago, but he hasn't complained since I started coming to this school."
Only Mary remained somber. Finding all this out now filled her with more despair. Her magic hadn't prevented someone from cutting off her long red braid just a few minutes ago. Still, a question rose from her trembling lips.
"Just how did you put magic in our hair without us knowing?"
Ms. Featherstone turned serious. "A valid question. Perhaps if I had been up front with you from the beginning, this tragedy would not have happened. You deserve to know everything now..."

So the hair of each girl is some kind of catalytic converter ,that is filled with Magic which can be jused depending on the state of he hair is for any reason. Nice. Now it's make sence why the think in the hole want hair, because of the great sorce of Magic that lie inside of in the hair. Well if there could turn her hair into fire the bad guy who want to cut it, only burn hisself. A nice next chapter

Is it abnormal to fall in love with my own character? It's like Rapunzel and Baroness had a baby, or apparently Bayonetta which I guess is something I need to play. #oldman

Thanks! I don't have everything figured out yet, but at least I think I've set up a good foundation for some stories.

Thats for sure, the Story had great potentional to become quiet something. Right now you can Play with the foundation you creat because the Story make scence so far, without getting weird thats nice. Β Also I love the explanations of why things are the way they are. And Ms. Featherstone is an interesting character.

So the hair magic changes depending on the state of the hair. So if its put in a really tight bun does it shoot a lazer?
