Description
Always a good idea to ask directions from the locals.I have no idea where the concept of the Amazon being home to tribes of exceptionally tall women came from, but it's a concept that I embrace and wanted to do a little play around with a little. The transition between the ground and the foliage leaves something to be desired, but I'm not clever enough to figure out exactly it should go together, nor am I patient enough to look it up. Anyways, nothing too special about this one, just a fun drawing for a fun idea.

I like to believe that there is a tribe of Amazon's who live in a jungle with plenty of highly fattening food, but they evolved to be highly mobile, strong and fertile. Able to hunt while letting their massively heavy bodies trick their prey into thinking they won't be a threat.

The Amazons refer to the Ancient Greek myth of warrior women who were one breasted (as they cut them off to be be better at drawing back a bow) and they were reputed to being stronger and taller than men.
Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons was also known for holding a magical girdle and they lived on an island reputedly. One which Heracles (Otherwise known as Hercules) visited at one point.
It's unknown if there was an actual tribe of Amazons but in Anatolia, present day Turkey archaeologists did find remains of women with late bronze age weapons and the like so its not impossible. And we do know for a fact that many Aegean islanders, when the men went off to war it was the women who defended their homes from attackers.
As for the Amazon basin getting the name: Its because the environment inspired the explorers who went there, because the tribes folk were pretty mysterious and for the most part, had a pretty equal society between men and women so when the Portuguese and Spaniards were floating down the rivers, and after their callous treatment of the locals inspiring anger or them encountering more warlike bands, it wasn't uncommon that it'd be both men and women who'd be firing arrows and throwing stuff at them.
