I think what this picture really needs is more reflection from the water. You know, that weird light pattern that's always on things that are under water. It's quite easy to do and adds a whole other dimension to the picture. As for Mia, her face looks too mechanical and not very human. There's no soft quality about it that faces usually have. Try making the lighting less severe and not putting as much emphasis on the definition between the different features....if that makes any sense.

The use of blues and other hues in the shading is fantastic. I wish I was confident enough in coloring to use such a wide variety of colors.

Nah. Not overkill. Untamed might work. I guess I mean to say that I get the sense of a lot of frantic motion from the hair: it's not just a big plasticy lump.

it's easier with black hair to not pass off as plasticy....lighter colours sometimes tend to show the under painting and then we have a plastic problem xD

something about the face just seems very odd. It's like the cheeks, mouth, eye, etc... areas where put together like a 3-D puzzel (You can distinctly tell each part from one another).
