An old favourite painting of mine, I'm so glad I finally found your process picture for it! You're still one of my top three favourite artists ever, and now that I'm drawing again you're a huge source of inspiration! I only hope one day I can paint as well as you.

I'm glad you still like it I've changed a LOT since that old style, yet, I do miss being so eager to try stuff like this just because it was fun.Β

Please could you tell that how do you "blend" and make those blotchy colours look so smooth?
If you even answer please be a little descriptive, because i have asked many and no one even bothered to answer BTW, you're art is so awesome

use "brush options: Other Dynamics" to turn on opacity and flow to react to your pen pressure. that's really it.

Thanks for showing us your painting process. It's always helpful to us developing artists and artist hopefuls to see how really good artists work!

I was curious about something... I love watching your work, and I like to look at the final peices compared to the scetches... I noticed that in the sketch she looked more serious... and then towards the end you made her mouth sorta have a small smile forming... what made you want to change her mood?

DanHowardArt In reply to Adoring-Artist [2008-05-25 00:57:56 +0000 UTC]
i didn't like her pouty look in the colours

Adoring-Artist In reply to DanHowardArt [2008-05-25 03:56:56 +0000 UTC]
heh, yeah, as I looked at the process, I saw how it went from serious, to pouty and bleek, to happyish... like a confidence and excitment... Eh, its good either way! you are awesome!!! lol

Argh...you are so good at painting. I suck so hard...I've been trying, and nothing I do looks good. It probably doesn't help that I'm attempting it in Photoshop 7, which isn't very good at blending.

You have a unique way with the skin coloring process and it gives you that certain it with your painting moods. Its nice.

DanHowardArt In reply to Gatling [2008-05-24 23:50:37 +0000 UTC]
gah, i wanna do how anry does and just lay out the colours i need, and not slowly build up/mix from dark to light (old oil painting technique).

Gatling In reply to DanHowardArt [2008-05-25 00:45:04 +0000 UTC]
Grrrr I know right?! I think I'm too chicken with that process outside of speedpaints and small things. Its the confidence I lack. But hey, at leat you have a process. I just kinda do what feels like it works for the moment, which usually makes me feel lost.

DanHowardArt In reply to Gatling [2008-05-25 00:57:30 +0000 UTC]
HAHAH nooo i play everything by ear, seriously. i walk in with line art, if that, and just putz around till it falls together. kinda like a jam-band.

it's the underpainting and base colour. colours change throughout the process via direct painting or colour adjustment.
