My entry to the contest: "Minimalism"
Level: Intermediate
READ BEFORE ATTACK ME
This is not a critique to technology, I don't live in a cave. This is just a dark humored joke - in my view -
about bad use/addiction on social medias that can make you live in a cage.
I walk hand in hand with technology, I can't live without Photoshop and almost everyday,
for personal art, training and commissioned work.
I can't be away from Photoshop and that's it!
Saying this, how can I be enemy of technology?
After struggling with the category, I decided by "Surreal".
I see the main object done in a surreal way, the mood is dark and the message can be classified as "dark humored" or just "humored".

This work is exceptionally done, no doubt. But good God, I am so sick and tired of the "technology is bad and evil" mentality that so many people have nowadays. It's the same mentality that has persisted in society throughout all the technological advancements humans have made.

Yeah, I agree with you when I see people criticizing technology. Nowadays we live and breath technology and this will continue to be progressing, will be our future! Cellphones don't bother me at all, what concerns me is an excessive addiction that makes some people stay away for hours and hours with eyes fixed on social medias. I'm not talking about things that matter as talking with family, try to get news from distant people, I'm talking about the illusion of social medias, where some people (mostly teenagers) stays for hours reading/watching/playing useless things without separate a time for doing useful things as studying, read books or even interact face to face. I hope you don't know someone like this, but I know and is a waste.

I think perhaps instead of blaming cell phones or social media, we need to look at the real heart of the problem which is the education system itself. Teachers are underpaid and underappreciated, schools are underfunded, classrooms are too full to give children and teenagers proper attention, students with disabilities are not given the proper facilities, and the list goes on.
Blaming cell phones and social media is just a red herring. It detracts from the actual issues and puts the blame for doing poorly in school or not being able to pay attention properly on the students alone, when there are many more factors that need to be taken into consideration, as well.

yes but other countries who have better education systems still struggle with students who prioritize their digital lives over education, and no amount of attention satisfies them more than their addiction to social media. people aren't really blaming social media, but the addictive property it has, the younger a person is the more likely they are to depend on it. the human brain becomes fully developed at around 18-20 approximately, hence the age restrictions on drinking and such(Can: 18 - USA:21) theses were set by generations before us, who sought to keep us safe(or control us, whatever). With technology advancing so quickly we were unable to foresee the flaws and saw no danger. Teenagers are targeted only because they've grown up using all of it.
The earlier we are introduced to it the more we think it's normal, the more we think we need it because it's just so damn convenient. kids find it hard to believe there was ever a time where there were no TVs and phones, life without entertainment at their fingers tips? hah, who would believe such a thing.
most significant technological advancements began in the 21st century(1992-1995 first smartphone), therefore people buying them would be adult affecting them less than let's say a 2-year-old, which is the case for most families today. Don't brush the problem aside just because you're sick of hearing it without acknowledging the reasoning for the persistence at least.
My mother was trying to do one o those stupid math equations that pass on Facebook, where the equation has to be calculated a certain way bout' two weeks ago...She asked me what 12-3 was, I stared at her hoping she'd get it, but she pulled out the calculator on her PC... now anytime it comes to counting anything she asks 'you sure you can count that?' with sarcastic undertone as if I'm the stupid one... She used to keep a wooden spoon in her back pocket for if I refused to study as a kid(5-12) she only stopped when she broke the spoon on my brother's ass. I fucking hate her.
