My entry to the contest: "Minimalism"
Level: Intermediate
READ BEFORE ATTACK ME
This is not a critique to technology, I don't live in a cave. This is just a dark humored joke - in my view -
about bad use/addiction on social medias that can make you live in a cage.
I walk hand in hand with technology, I can't live without Photoshop and almost everyday,
for personal art, training and commissioned work.
I can't be away from Photoshop and that's it!
Saying this, how can I be enemy of technology?
After struggling with the category, I decided by "Surreal".
I see the main object done in a surreal way, the mood is dark and the message can be classified as "dark humored" or just "humored".

You are right, and then, if we put all the "real issues" with the "social media illusions" we end with people doing nothing about what really matters. People can't imagined how things you mentioned and the bad side of social medias can sedate a 3rd world country like mine.

I saw that the contest required much more of a "message" than a super busy visual artwork, so, this is what came in mind!
I know that maybe will cost some discussion due to the "theme", but well, the picture reached its goal!

Yeah, I don't see myself as a top artist, but I can give you a list of people I see as top artists. I still have so much to learn, everyday, each new art is a new learning, that's why I can't stop doing a single style of art, to learn we need to try everything!!

no dark, no humorous, no surreal......
There countries where there are ridicolous roads dedicated to people walking to iphone hahah for this reason i call them "walking dead"
but the issue is more extended everywhere....restaurants etcc...many times i see tables with people all with the eyes on the iphone. They are all slaves. The New Illness of the Century.....I know people that in the middle of the night go to check if there are messages!
Well my engl. limit me 99%....In italian i could talk about this for hours. And probably this is even a luck for you
I don't know the others works of this contest.....but will be very very hard go over the concept and vision/structure of this work.

Actually, I think this piece have a little of each: the main object was done in a surreal way, the environment is dark - to depict a "dark" condition of your mind. Added with some conceptual message in a "dark humor" way!
I added a note in the description of this art before people think that I'm throwing stones in technology, this is not a critique to technology, this is just a dark humored joke in my observation of a bad use/addiction on social medias. As you may know I walk hand in hand with technology, I can't live without Photoshop and almost everyday I need to use for personal art, personal training or commissioned works. I can't be away from Photoshop and this can be considered an addiction too, - I just try to believe that is about a healthy one! I'm in Facebook too btw, I just use with moderation as I think people should use.

buahhaha yes indeed i tried to explain that don't is an attack to the tecnology.....but with my shit engl. i can't write depth and long articulated comments as i want! So i tried to go a bit more in depth...not because im obliged to do this, but only because there isn't problem to write some other thing about this phenomenon......because like or not......this is a giant and delicate phenomenon of our century.....Many USA universities and not only study for years this delicate topic........and for personal culture i love keep my self always informed about all the things of this world....

I'd like to know precisely how other peoples business and how much time they spend on their phones affects you personally in any way.
Maybe that person is waiting for a message about their sick grandmother? Maybe that person is wondering if their significant other got home OK? Maybe that person is talking to a family member or friend they haven't spoken to in years? Maybe the reason those people are on the phone is none of your business?
I think, instead, we need to work on the judgmental attitude that people have today where they can sit there, like you are, and think you have any right to pass judgment on other people and what they do with their own lives. I think, instead, you need to perhaps work on being a little less concerned with how technology is apparently turning everyone into slaves and instead look at how technology has actually helped bring people together in ways that we never have before.
I also find it interesting that you are passing judgment on individuals using their cell phones out in the world, yet you are here typing a message from what I assume is Italy to someone who, and I havent checked this because I'm on my phone ha ha, is not in Italy. Would it not be OK then for me to pass judgment on you for using the Internet instead of going and speaking to this person face-to-face?

Who wrote negative things relative tecnology? and as i wrote at the end of my previous comment, i wrote that i can't write all that i want because my engl is poor and for sure about this, some other explanation was necessary.
So i have to link the previous words with these others following but always partials.
When im driving and i see a walking dead...crossing the road, slowly because he/she is or messaging or talking...without watch the road....i go crazy....And many times i have to avoid these shit ridicolous people....because an high %....use the iphone while driving.........The impressive thing is they didn't notice the potential accident because distracted by the phone....wow...and many times in my car there are also my 2 little daughters....
3 days agoo, some of these zombies and so he was with the eyes completely down, was ready to go against my wife, who at the same time watched a showcase..I was following this great entire scene to wait the right moment.... 1 moment before i stopped him giving him a big scream....He was lucky that i was following the scene to stop the action....i can't imagine what happened if he goes against my wife. Im really dangerous in these cases.
For the zombies the road in front of them must to be always completely free...
So when i go out of my house, i pay always attention to cars and zombies.
the tec. is cool when it does not hurt the people around you. but not all people have the brain to understand this simple concept.

and about as i wrote...."The New Illness of the Century"...this is another topic....but not my problem if others people don't read all the actuality of this world of each day....You live in USA and it is strange that you don't know all studies that various universities and not only do in your country about this delicate topic....above all linked to the social phenomenon created by iphone and social media in these years...
