Looked a bit like minigun at the first glance, but actually it's a logical design, nobody wants to be touching the weapon itself when it goes all hot, right? Just wondering what it uses as fuel, it must be something very dense and higly flammable because the tank is quite small so if it was using something we know in real life, it would run out of fuel very quickly. But its perfectly fine for a futuristic weapon I think, because as I said, it can be using something with much higher... "consumption/FLAMEZ!" ratio  

It looks cool, it's a nice way to give this kind of weapon a "modern/futuristic" look. (Well I think it looks much nicer than the flamethrower we saw in some trailers for the new Star Wars films )
