Description Not an original concept, but it was far overdue. I really want Sayd to grow her hair out more than it is now, I think she could look really nice with it.

Kyle: Guy, I don't think it's a good idea.
Gardner: C'mon, boy. It's funny. You and me are the partner. I won't let you down. Trust me.
Ganthet: What the hell it's happened?
Gardner: It's Kyle's idea! Bye!Β
Ganthet: Lantern Rayner!
Kyle: Now it's official. I hate him.Β

I suppose if you haven’t had sex in a billion years, it would be like losing your virginity all over again.

Hmm, I wonder if there's a legitimate cut-off date for that. Like, everyone millenium or two you technically regain your virginity.

I’ve heard Guardians have a built in memory filter that helps their quantum computer efficient brains delete innocuous and seldom used information to prevent saturation dementia. If the direct memory of their sexual encounters as youngsters was suppressed, as they became obsessed with Willpower discipline, then it may have eventually been deleted entirely. So, as Hope Discipline replaces Will, it really is the First Time all over again.

Huh. I hadn't heard any of that. Makes sense though that they'd have such a compensating mechanism, or else how would they retain their knowledge without having some kind of inevitable meltdown.

Well, it’s a recent retcon detail, of course. The limitations of the brain of an immortal is seldom contemplated, but, say, if a human stopped aging at 20-25, and retained the cellular level health of 20-25 forever, but the brain cells continued to build dendritic connections every day at a normal rate, they would eventually hit a data storage limit. No human has ever lived long enough to actually experience this, (as far as we know), but at some point between about year 475-525, depending on precise maximum brain size capacity (which varies by 5%), a day would come when one of two things would happen.
1) You wake up every day with your old memory intact, but no new memories after the very last day. Like β€œFifty First Dates”.
2) You go through that last day, unaware of anything out of the ordinary, because some random day of memories from the previous five centuries was overwritten, probably a seldom used one. At that rate, it might take at least 10 years or as much as fifty before holes in your deep memory were noticed. By the time you reached 1,000, over 90% of your first 500 would be lost forever. Nothing wrong with the cells, they just don’t have the room.

Whichever would happen, clearly some artificial means of extending memory would have to be found.

Ha ha! Awesome job, especally the expressions on Kyle and Guy's faces

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to pawcanada [2010-05-16 23:27:30 +0000 UTC]

That had to be the funnest part of this particular page; making their expressions. Guy was the easiest, I always find him to have one of those faces that multiple emotions just comes naturally to. Kyle was a bit more challenging, given that a mask makes it more difficult for emotion to be expressed beyond the shape of the eyes

I'm not too fond of Kyle's current costume to be honest :/. I prefered the one he wore after becoming Ion the first time/when Hal came back. Shame he didn't revert back to it after Sinestro Corp Wars.

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to pawcanada [2010-05-19 11:04:57 +0000 UTC]

To be fair, that costume was based off of the Ion Power, which he no longer has. Must admit that it was rather good though

pawcanada In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2010-05-19 11:13:48 +0000 UTC]

Just to make sure we're talking about the same costume, I was refering to this one - [link] I call it the "Post-Ion" costume, as it's the one he created after he gave up the Ion Powers for the first time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to pawcanada [2010-05-19 11:24:58 +0000 UTC]

He still had the Ion Power then though, he didn't give it up until Sinestro took it from him on Qward

pawcanada In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2010-05-19 22:22:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh right. I'll admit I didn't start reading GL until around Sinestro Corp Wars, though I had been following Kyle a little. I was under the impression he sacrificed the power to revive the Guardians, made the new costume and gave his ring an upgrade.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to pawcanada [2010-05-19 23:46:43 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh, I see. No, what he did was use the Ion power to recharge the Central Power Battery. Unexpectedly, the Guardians' minds and essences were saved inside the ring Kyle had, and were released into the battery at that time, which as they are so connected to the Green Light, allowed them to rebuild their bodies from the green flame.

He retained the Ion power, and became known by the Guardians as "The Torchbearer", both for keeping the GL memory alive, and for bearing the Ion Power up until the Sinestro Corps. War
