I'd go with Spencer. His class was built on speed.

What's your reason?

MissLuckychan29 In reply to DanielArkansanEngine [2015-04-24 00:02:38 +0000 UTC]

as a child I thought he was an absolute jerk, I mean, HOW ARE CHILDREN NOT IMPORTANT? THEY GROW UP TO BE THE PEOPLE WHO PAY FOR YOU TO RUN EVERYDAY! He wasn't looking at the big picture. And because of that, there were no children seeing him as an inspiration. Instead Tillie's tale was the one immortalized.

OK. Although in my opinion, what Spencer did in "Hero of the Rails" does give Farnsworth a run for his money.

why are you making me recount my vote?
I mean, Sir Topham Hatt can always scold Spencer into submission or at least threaten to dismantle him. If I were a train, that'd scare the steam/exhaust out of me. Then I'd have to get therapy for all the other trains I hurt emotionally somehow... (that last thing was a joke)
But Farnsworth never was punished for making the toys feel as though they should give up. I mean, if Tillie had died up on the mountain, it'd be the coal dust of her darkened firebox on his, Tower's, and Pete's reputation. Georgia and Jebodiah cannot be blamed due to medical conditions.

I was just sharing my opinion.

Also, the same did happen to the shiny passenger engine in the original book.

I never saw that in the book.. maybe I read the censored one.
But you had good points.

Well, in the original book, the Passenger Engine (Farnsworth in the movie) thought itself too refined to pull the load the Birthday Train (Georgia) was to deliver before she broke down and the smoky Freight Engine (Pete in the movie, as voiced by Optimus Prime himself, Peter Cullen) thought itself too important before puffing off to the Rail House, "where trains live when they are not busy". In the movie, Jebodiah, who represented the Kind Rusty Engine, wanted to help, but his "chug just wasn't what it used to be and going up the mountain was too much for [him] these days", whereas the book's version just simply said flat out that he was worn out and CAN'T pull the toys and food up the mountain. Enter the titular Little Engine, named Tillie in the movie and voiced by the lovably iconic Kath Soucie (the remake had her CGI equivalent unnamed and voiced by Alyson Stoner, but in the remake, the Little Engine had self-esteem issues and didn't have the belief in herself that Tillie from the 1991 film or even the source book counterpart had, which ruins the entire aspect of the story when the title character doesn't have the can-do attitude she was born with originally), who determinedly rises to the occasion, pulling the toys and food up the mountain, and ultimately proving to the gruff Tower, the indigent other engine, and to herself that she could do it.

It's alright, I grew up with the 1991 movie also anyways.

Oh I love the movie. My cousin and I, though we're told we're waaaay too old to enjoy it, we still do from time to time on youtube.
When I was a kid I saw my dad being like Pete because he was big and tough but in the morning he'd cough alot
and my mom was like Georgia because she was always nice
And I was Tillie because she was awesome.

That's cool.

Oh, fun fact for ya', did you know that Pete was voiced by Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime?

Farnsworth. I mean he's an American diesel and I'm biased for American tech (guilty).Ā

DanielArkansanEngine In reply to UPSteam [2015-04-21 02:04:29 +0000 UTC]

I love American locomotives too, but I also like British engines.

UPSteam In reply to DanielArkansanEngine [2015-04-21 03:20:02 +0000 UTC]

British locomotives have their looks and they certainly have some interesting tech. But you can't beat the lines, curves, size, and sheer raw power you can find on the American and Canadian locomotives.

Zephyr4501 [2015-04-20 23:44:21 +0000 UTC]

Wow... That's a really hard decision. I'd say Farnsworth, only considering that he probably has a higher tractive effort.Ā

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 0

General-Crimson [2015-04-20 23:43:11 +0000 UTC]

Only see Farnsworth once and when comparing the two, I'd say he's the bigger one. At least Spencer does apologize when something goes wrong or he's at fault.

DanielArkansanEngine In reply to General-Crimson [2015-04-20 23:44:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but I've never seen him do it.

Dan: I saw it too, and the part of Spencer getting laughed at by Mallard made me laugh so hard, my safety valve nearly burst.
