"It's not your fault, but Sir Topham Hatt should scrap you and get engines like me! A fill of oil, a touch on the starter and I'm off! No bother, no waiting. They have to fuss over you for HOURS before you're ready."

How would you feel if Bowler was his official name given to us by HiT rather than having the nickname be created by fans?

That would be great.

It's much better than just calling him D261 or The Diesel; more creative of a name Bowler is, in my opinion.

Plus, having him named Bowler makes more sense, considering that he sucked a bowler hat into his air intake.

I wish that recent episodes referenced episodes like this. I don't think they even referenced the very first episode of the whole series in an episode yet.

I mean, out of all the episodes this series had, I don't think the very first one was ever referenced.

Yeah, quite ironic, seeing it started the whole TV series.

Yeah, even though it's not the first story in the RWS(I think).

You're actually right about Thomas and Gordon not being the first story in the RWS; the very first RWS story was Edward's Day Out.

There's a lot of history behind that story as well.

For starters, we all know that the Rev. W Awdry first told these stories to his son Christopher when he had the measles in 1943, but the stories weren't published until 1945, two years later, due to wartime issues. A fact that I found really interesting was that the stories in The Three Railway Engines weren't originally intended to be included in the same volume, let alone take place on the same railway. Luckily, the publishers encouraged Awdry to write the story Edward Gordon and Henry to bring all of the characters together and to finish off with a happy ending.

Do you know how things would be if Edward, Henry and Gordon weren't part of the same railway? Or if World War II didn't get in the way of publishing the stories?

holmesman In reply to DanielArkansanEngine [2014-12-05 15:37:06 +0000 UTC]
Well, I'm sure things would definitely be different.

holmesman In reply to DanielArkansanEngine [2014-12-06 14:09:40 +0000 UTC]
Well, obviously The Three Railway Engines would have been published earlier, and Edward Henry and Gordon would be on different railways.

Yeah, but they're not the same color nor did they get into the same trouble. Don't believe me? Then take a look here ttte.wikia.com/wiki/The_Diesel and here ttte.wikia.com/wiki/The_Diesel
