I'm not certain, but wasn't Gordon based on an A1 class? Or was it an A3, can't remember.

First of all, Gordon is an A0, which, in the Thomas universe, was the prototype for the A1/3s.
Secondly, the Gresley A1s and A3s are actually the same engine. They started out as A1s, but they all received rebuilds later on, which improved performance, and they were reclassified as A3s.

Oh, okay, and I figured the A1's and A3's were the same, someone mentioned the Scotsman was an A1, and I must have been confused by the comment. Thanks for clearing it up.
