Description
Here's a little project I've been working on the past couple of weeks, a homemade hot-wire foam cutter. What it does is that when hooked to a low-voltage power source(which in this case is an old Lionel Trains transformer), it heats up the nichrome wire and it cuts through styrofoam like butter. And oh boy, what an experience in building this thing, from cutting the scrap pieces of wood for the base, to painting it, to learning how to solder the wires. But it was totally worth the effort, because it works like magic. If you're wondering what I plan to use this for, well for one thing, I really want to try my hand at making realistic model scenery, and a good amount of that is made from foam. And after watching a lot of model scenery vids on YouTube(and resolving to be more active and start making and doing more stuff after suffering through 2020), I really wanted to make one of these and get started on that stuff.Related content
